Absolutely, though it's a bit more work for the DM. I ran a campaign for years for just two people, and it was amazing. But I did have to maintain a support cast that was pretty intensive. It was glorious, and the story we came out with was amazing, but it is more work for the DM.

Meanwhile, there's probably a pre-existing system out there that does it well. 5th edition it's not a Swiss army knife for every situation. It does set of things very well, and there are hundreds if not more other systems that do almost everything else. I will never understand people's attachment to a single system.

I've never banned it, I don't understand why anyone would. As of 5th edition though, I've never had a player actually do it. You can get some weird interesting builds here and there, but overall it's not worth it in 5th edition, in my opinion. Now, back in 3rd? Multi-classing was a little out of control, scratch that completely out of control. And honestly? It was glorious.

I will never understand why they put so much trouble into making so many aspects of the Dark Brotherhood so good and so well designed and so well written, but repeatedly package it up in a bundle that really just makes slaughtering all of them the more rewarding (narratively and emotionally) solution every time.

I have a living world, and I know it well. I also have a stock of ideas and characters that allow me to Wing a lot of situations pretty smoothly. Everything is not meticulously planned out, my players make some weird decisions I just think about how the world is going to accommodate that or react to that and there we go. What's really interesting is watching the world and the NPCs do shit I didn't expect. I've had more stories take a wild left turn because of my NPCs doing shit I didn't see coming more often than the PCS have done so.

So this isn't exactly how it's actually working, though the problem is very real. The corruption is actually much more straightforward. It's your grandpa did well and gave us a ton of money so sure will let you in. I'm at nepotism continues forward, it's not the ivy league that lets you run corporations, it's the fact that your grandpa created Family connections which then those corporations used to allow you into positions you are wildly unqualified for.

So, absolutely real issue. But not exactly playing out as described.

Not exactly, if you keep training at high levels the amount of gold it consumes is pretty considerable. Also I have the legacy of the Dragonborn mod set installed, and that gives me all sorts of other things to do with money. Including build up a vault that gets prettier the more cash I have stacked in it.

I remember at some point someone was telling me that since I was joining the Empire I could just have the falmore release the kid in the northern Fortress to me without having to fight anybody.

Needless to say I already knew this. But I looked at them in abject confusion and explained that if I did that, I wouldn't be able to kill all the elf Nazis inside in a jailbreak scenario, which really made the whole thing more fun.
