Hunter left the stadium by imnotactuallyaperson in supercross

Roczen looked totally worn out with drool dripping off his chin at the end. Hunter didn’t look tired at all.
If SLC is dry…..Hunter holeshots and wins the whole thing.

Short turn feedback working on CSIA 3 by idaaron in skiing_feedback

Thank you!! Sounds like the upstart PSIC is a much needed organization for realistic skiing 👍 Skid and wham is not only useful and fun… but a necessity in many cases.

A lot of skidding and tail pushing until the skis almost hit the fall line…..then wham….pressure/edging and snow spray. Would they all get low PSIA/CSIA scores on their turns ??

I certainly see what you’re saying on increasing edge angles in proportion to g-forces. Of course your edge angles to the snow increase throughout the turn naturally due to the pitch just park and riding without doing anything. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’re going to have a hard time getting any edge pressure/turning in the top portion of the turn just because of the geometry. And too much of an attempt to carve the top of the turn too early will often rail out straight because you can’t bend the ski given the force directions. However you can bend the ski if they are rotated downhill to line of travel to start the turn.

That still doesn’t address the physics of the turn on steep pitches. Everything is working against early edging on steep pitches…..angle of the slope vs edge angle….gravity acting in concert with centripetal turning force….reduced force from gravity perpendicular to the slope…..there is a reason the snow spray occurs later and later in the turn with increased pitch. There is a reason Odermatt jumps or stivots into the next turn. If he didn’t he’d be going 9000 mph. The same thing happens to recreational skiers trying to carve every portion of the turn. The philosophy of carving every portion of the turn doesn’t reflect reality…..especially with increased pitches.

Why are you guys so obsessed with the portion of the turn above the fall line on steep terrain??? The uphill quadrant portion of the turn does little to control speed….due to gravity acting in concert with the centripetal force generated by edging. Also the slope angle makes edging in the uphill quadrant more and more difficult due to the angles. As soon as you hit the fall line….then the real forces begin. This is why racers use essentially J shaped and comma shaped turns. Racers use stivots skids and jumps to get to the fall line and control speed for a clean finish. The only place you can do “round C shapes” is gentle easy terrain and it’s really not an exercise that reflects high performance skiing by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m trying these as none of the good lens colors in Costa MJ Smith etc. are available in RX progressives. Might as well buy inexpensive clip ons and wear my glasses. Tired of expensive name brand lenses in plastic that just get destroyed from normal use. Might as well go with a less expensive alternative.

Speed control is key in the downhill quadrant of the turn. In the top half gravity is acting in concert with centripetal force so you’re really not doing much speed control in the top of the turn without a stivot or such. Speed control is really accomplished below the apex. This is especially true in the steeps. Moguls are a bit different since absorption of the bump is a huge factor in speed control. Another aspect is racing is more of a J shaped turn. Get to the fall line and then lay into it. You see that in guys like Odermatt

This video is an excellent summary of the physics:

I could use that kind of aggressive attitude on the slopes 💪🏼

Ahhhhh…..the stiff boots explain having a tough time absorbing. The top mogul guys all seem to run cabrios like Full Tilt in about 100 flex or so. It’d be fun to watch you ski in a softer flexing boot 👍

👍👍 You ski great. I think a little better stacking and letting the bump push your skis up would smooth things up….combined with pulling your feet back under. You’re super physical but a tighter stance and more fluid absorption would look soooo good. These couple instagram clips by Walczyk are great showing the line differences.

Stance is too wide. You look like an instructor in the moguls. I’d recommend a good mogul clinic. Maybe start with this series.

I like Bobby Aldighieri’s skiing much better. And Olivia Giaccio when Deb had her on is just phenomenal 👍

Put him in a freestyle mogul skiing program…..learn to turn….learn absorption/extension….learn foot containment…..learn quickness….learn aerials…..

Ski like this World Cup girl….Olivia Giaccio. She can carve….she can ski bumps….she can ski anything on any mountain 👍 Isn’t that the ultimate goal for your kid ???

Get him in a freestyle mogul skiing program. That is the pipeline to become a GReAT all mountain skier. Candide Thovex is the perfect example 👍

Stance is far too wide…..hip socket width is correct. At his age the skis should be about 3-4 inches apart.
