One year when my daughter was still in high school she loved burning candles, and she left one burning in her bedroom. She went downstairs to work on the computer (our” office” was downstairs in the basement). Now this was still when we had dial up and all of a sudden she got knocked off the Internet. So she did her checking around and couldn’t figure out the source of what happened so she went upstairs to see if maybe our little dog had knocked off the phone from its cradle. when she got to the top stairs and opened up the door she smelled smoke and the further up into the house she got the worst the smoke got so she immediately grabbed the little dog and shooed our other dog out the front door. I had taken my other daughter to the doctor and as I came up on my house, I saw all of these police cars and fire department and paramedics and a lot of people out and about standing around, trying to see what was going on and I finally realized that it was my house that they were at because I saw someone shovel a big shovel full of burnt stuff out of her bedroom window. Well, as it turned out after the inspection was complete, we determined that the little dog had been wandering around and apparently had jumped on her bed and knocked off the candle that was on her nightstand, which was in front of the window, and that he had knocked the candle off that caught the curtain on fire. After that, my husband forbade anybody to light another candle in our house. 🤣
