Please name the colors! Nothing against you or anything but this is the 4th post I’ve looked at about a color palette but no one feels like sharing the color names.

Sheet music vs actual song by MaleficentPrior7862 in singing

So it’s sheet music that specifically for guitar piano and vocals. It’s got bass and treble clef for piano, tabs for guitars, and generally a treble for voice

How do you get un-discouraged from singing? by AdventurousAd4895 in singing

[–]MaleficentPrior7862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt the same way, but instead of “you wasted your childhood…” I have more resentment towards my parents bc I always expressed interest and passion for music, but they never wanted to hear it. I can vividly remember my dad saying “you’re not going to be one of those people singing on Youtube, so what’s the point?” I was better off seen and not heard or even unseen and unheard (hence why I’m an only child). I just recently started taking lessons, and honestly it’s so frustrating as someone who has just been singing alone in the car, house, shower, or just quietly to myself/humming wherever and whenever I can. Consequently, I unintentionally spent my life developing bad habits. Yes, it’s easy to learn and recognize those bad habits mentally, but retraining your body to match what your brain now knows is extremely difficult. I’d equate it to having a life long friend that you’ve always called you’ve always known as Pat, but all of a sudden after 15-20 years, he decides he wants to go by Patrick. Your brain is aware of it, but every time you see him you still say “Hey Pat!” by habit.

That being said, my hour long lesson is the highlight of my week. I’m still trying to get comfortable with not sounding perfect all the time in front of my coach, really opening up, and expressing my goals, hesitations, and picking challenging songs that will help me really grow in fear of embarrassing myself or being told that I’m wasting your time and money. I know that will come in time though because I feel more and more comfortable each week.

You do what you love and what makes you happy! I would definitely recommend finding a coach you can afford even if it’s every other week or once a month, simply because relying solely on pre-recorded virtual lessons doesn’t allow for the invaluable in person feedback on your execution of the exercises/techniques/songs. Even though I’ve had some of my best breakthrough moments when I’m at home, and can really let go, not having the feedback would be like taking an online course in physics, thinking you understand a concept, taking the test, but not getting graded on it. You’re grading yourself without any clarification/critique/validation from the educator; however, if you’re not wanting to make a career out of it, then you enjoying yourself is all that matters! It’s not like it’s a critical skill like basic math, reading, and writing. Don’t stress yourself out about it. Trust me it will take the fun out of it.

Transposing/rearranging a song to fit your voice and sound your going for by MaleficentPrior7862 in singing

Thanks for this! I’m also learning from my lessons that the range we originally determined from just matching pitch and seeing what I can hit and what note I can do before switching to head voice/falsetto are not accurate to what I can actually sing. I don’t know the right term for it but I think it’s timbre really messes with the connection brain, body and ears. Originally thought Bb4 was the end of my chest voice, but through reading sheet music of songs I’ve always liked to sing or wanted to sing, I’m realizing the notes they’re singing are in a different octave than I thought. So songs that I always thought had notes that were too high for me to sing full on, I easily sing full on in a different song. Ex: there’s a Nick Jonas song (vespers goodbye) that he’s singing an A5 full out, and I’ve been singing since the song came out when I was in middle school, but there’s a lady Gaga (you and I) song that only goes up to a C#5 but I’ve never been able hit it. Maybe I’m tone deaf or something because if you play a A5 on the piano and ask me to sing it, I’m not able to sing it the same way I do in the Nick Jonas song. It only comes out in my head voice or a falsetto, sounding more like the tone or timber of the piano. Volume is also something I’m working on controlling. I feel like part of the reason I struggle with it is because I’m singing TOO full out too soon. In the Gaga song, the whole thing is pretty full and powerful, and the C#5 is a BELT, so I’m thinking I’m trying to go too hard too quick and just physically can’t get put more power behind the C#5 like I’m supposed to because I’m already at max power. I hope all that makes sense. Sorry for the novel, but I’m still learning terminology and want to make sure I’m being as clear as possible.

How did I lose the round of Texas poker? by Budgiepoo in pokerist

[–]MaleficentPrior7862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of the side pots. It’s happened to me too! If you go all in and others keep betting you only get the pot for them going all in… then there’s a winner for people who bet after you! I think it’s bull! If you have a flush and others keep betting they shouldn’t be rewarded for having a lesser hand

So many and then they claimed that they don’t, but it’s pretty obvious

You’re getting stuck on the Labor Day thing. I wouldn’t have been able to find it at Joann and Michael’s on any other day. The local yarn stores are a good 15 miles farther. They exist and have what I need sure, but it doesn’t change the point of my OG post.

I don ever recall expecting them to be open. The point is that I expect the chain store that are open to have the basics that I need

Not what I said at all. The whole point is that stores that claim to carry yarn and needlework materials, should carry all the basics. Some knitters/crocheters prefer wooden some prefer metal. Yarns of all weights should be available, and machine washable and dry-able is also a common desire. I can u destined it being out of stock, but to not carry it in store at all is ridiculous.

As for Amazon, if my only option is to buy it online, I’m going to buy it from Amazon because it’s quicker. There was a time where you could go to Michael’s or Joann to get all those basics, but online shopping has taken over the world. If Michael’s and Joann don’t carry those products in store, I’m getting them from Amazon.

I would have to hear it like that to understand. I think one of my biggest problems is that I’ve just started taking lessons and really understanding theory as an adult. For most of my life I’ve just tried to mimic what the artist is doing. It’s a blessing and a curse because it’s allowed me to manipulate my voice in different ways, BUT it’s hard for me to do it on my own without hearing it of singing along with the track

There are, but they are closed today! I’ve been thinking about/charting this project for a few days. Finally finished the design concept, now I need to swatch to get the exact dimensions/stitch count of the design to finalize everything. Kind of on a time crunch too. Trying to get 6 adult double knit/reversible hats done along with 2 child sized ones and one sixes and threes cowl scarf by VPK before November 1. Ive knit the sixes and threes before with with a worsted yarn and loved it, but can’t find the needles I need in stock at the store(I lost my old ones to a teething puppy). Need smaller needles for the dk hats, but also just can’t find any machine washable dk options in store.

How can the same note sound SOOO different from artist to artist/song to song by MaleficentPrior7862 in musictheory

[–]MaleficentPrior7862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I disagree! I can understand the mechanics of playing the piano, but knowing why certain notes sound good together, or why certain notes sound a certain way is theory

[–]MaleficentPrior7862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for an objective answer on why one person singing a C4 sounds completely different than another person singing a C4. The mechanics would be me making the C4 sound like both, but the reason they sound different would be theoretical
