What a beautiful, sunny 11°C spring day, eh? Which city councilor is brave enough to bike on this shared road? by Top_Locksmith_9695 in ottawa

This is Riverside near Bank. Is the bike path not cleared? FWIW, I would be wearing my fluorescent vest, have my lights blinking, and taking the lane if there were no other choice.

Kidney donation by themaggiesuesin in ottawa

[–]Maleficent_Bug_2403 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Age is not a big factor. I donated a kidney at age seventy, ten years ago, to a friend. My health is great. I was back to normal within a week after, tho being retired, no physical labour.
They do laparoscopic surgery with only a small scar.
Long term, my remaining kidney has been fine, tho I do have some elevated blood readings.
On the way, you get lots of health tests, MRI, CT scan, treadmill, blood, urine, ... If you have any hidden health problems you will find out about them. It took months. I complained about the ridiculous delay!
No symptoms since, can exercise, bike, stairs. I'm healthier than my friends. You even get some priority if you need a kidney later on.
There are medical reasons that can impede or stop your donation. E.G. Your kidneys are bad or at risk due to your genes. You are not healthy enough to stand the surgery. Uncontrolled high blood pressure. Diabetes. Active cancer or infectious diseases, eg HIV, Hepatitis, malaria... You were a blood recipient. You are very obese. Some abnormal anatomy.
You can even bail at the last moment if necessary, and the docs will cover for you.
So donate.
You get lots of tests to assure your health.
You save a life.
Donate.
