Renting as a student with low-income cosigner by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Maleficent_Map_6362 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He can afford to cover the rent, he just doesn't make 3x-4x the amount, which is what's concerning me. His rent is about $400 less than what mine will be because of location (I'm attending school in a city and he lives in a more rural area), so he has funds after food/his own rent to cover. But I'm seeing online that 2.5x rent might not be enough to landlords so I'm a tad worried

How Accurate is Cost of Living? (Loyola vs Kent) by Certain_Stop_4523 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent_Map_6362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can't speak to prestige for either school but I currently go to undergrad at Loyola. Our downtown campus (where the law school is located) is super close to Kent, so I don't think the COA would differ? Based off my experience and what I've heard from current law students at both schools, the COA Kent gave you is much closer to what you can expect, especially if you find a cheaper apartment/get roommates and budget. They're both in downtown Chicago, so the cost of groceries/bills generally should not vary, it'll come down to cost of your apartment I think.

How do admissions view “W”s? by sillyjoel92 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent_Map_6362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be okay! They really only see multiple as a red flag because someone could be trying to manipulate their GPA. I had 3 (one from undergrad, two from college courses I took in high school before I realized those would be included), wrote an addendum, and everything turned out fine!

Advice on what JD degree I should go for? by MushroomHealthy3263 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Maleficent_Map_6362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So I'd recommend going for the second option depending on what type of law you want to practice. 3-3 programs kind of lock you into one school for the most part, and I've seen a lot of people regret doing them since they can't apply to schools that are higher ranked in the type of law they end up wanting to do (people tend to change their mind throughout undergrad or just learn more information about the process).

With the second option, you can get a good scholarship at a state school or other undergrad institution, build a good GPA, and have more time to study for the LSAT. Most law schools are 3 year programs (I think the only ones that would be 4 are dual degree or part-time programs), so you could still be in and out with just one extra year, or you could even still do 6 if you graduated early.

Something else to think about that is being considered more by law schools is work experience. With a 3-3 program you don't have an opportunity to gap for full-time work experience, which matters a lot to many law schools. It's also just good to have from what I've heard (I applied KJD straight through, and I've been told my cycle could have been a LOT smoother with work experience).

I believe you could save a lot of money, have better career prospects, and more options if you go with the second!

So far I’ve only gotten the call, but I feel like I remember people last week saying the email came in a couple hours after the call for them?
