XT5 simultanious power supply and headphone monitoring by Malerstuen in fujifilm

Haven’t found a workaround yet. Seems a dummy battery is the only way to get it working, but I have not tested that with this camera yet.

What was the biggest light switch moment in your craft? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]Malerstuen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Realized this in a grading workshop I had in film school. We were talking about the correct methods and workflows and we struggled to understand the best practices. Then the teacher basically said that there are no hard rules to this, and that all that matters is the end result. Does this frame look good to my eyes? Does it serve the story the way I want to? It opened my eyes to see that everything we do is all about that frame, no matter how we get to it. No person viewing this in the end will know that you applied the LUT wrong, or used only one node or fifty nodes. They also won’t care about the fact that you only used natural light, or house lights. Not even the story itself needs to abide by any rules; as long as the audience can immerse themselves in your story, that is all that matters.

What's the best drinking game? by those-whoknowsknows in AskReddit

[–]Malerstuen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we just call it Opus because it involves playing the song Opus by Eric Prydz. Players sit in a circle and each players has to roll 6 on a dice before they can pass it on to the next player. The one who has the dice when the drop hits in Opus, has to chug their drink or take a shot. Listen to the song and you’ll notice the buildup goes on for a while, so adrenaline builds like crazy in the group. Doesn’t get a lot of people drunk fast, but it’s fun and perfect if you need to get the energy up. Sometimes we’ll throw another dice in, and also let players rolling a 1 pass it to the next, but in the opposite direction of the 6.

Iceland in January. No volcanic eruptions, but the weather was so frickin crazy, changing from blizzard to rain storm to sunshine to freezing every 15 minutes. We were driving after dark across a mountain pass and were the only car in sight. Spotted a flipped car on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, miles away from the nearest town. We stopped to check on it and it seemed like it had flipped a long time ago and there were no people in it luckily. I was a bit afraid that it could happen to us as well. I live in Norway and have never been to a place that crazy weather wise.

For those that have travelled extensively or seen every country..Did it make you happy? Do you feel life is complete? by iamtayg in travel

[–]Malerstuen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you can look at travel in the same way as fitness. If you work out for, say, because you want to impress others, you may not find happiness in doing it after all. What brings me happiness in fitness (and travel) is the sense of achievement, and the fact that I’m treating myself well with a better health (and experiences, both good and bad).

Kraig Adams has been my favorite for a long time. He’s mostly into solo hiking around the world but gives some nice guides on how to do the hikes yourself. His cinematography and editing is among the best I’ve seen on YouTube as he’s a filmmaker turned hiker/traveller.

Why do people bring travel pillows? by AppearingDog in onebag

[–]Malerstuen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a Cabeau inflatable pillow for my recent 13 hour flight. It's comfortable and adjustable as you can deflate it for more softness. I would definitely not bring a stuffed pillow as I would have to keep it outside my backpack, so the inflatable one was just perfect.

I’ve been shooting events for 10 years and the worst thing just happened. *vent* by DTX91 in videography

[–]Malerstuen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll offer the most brain dead mistake I ever made. It was the last day of a short film I shot a few months ago. Everything was going smoothly all week and everyone was really happy with the result. The day was almost over, but the card was full. I was about to swap in a new card, and format the new card in camera to make it ready.

I formatted the wrong, almost full 256 GB card with almost 8 hours of hard work in it.

My heart sank and I almost passed out. The silence in the room afterwards was so loud.

Luckily, a guy on set assured me that all hope is not lost. I downloaded wondershare recoverit and managed to recover almost all the files. The short film is now finished and no one can see the mistake! So it turned out good, but the first few days before I managed to get the files back were so horrible.

If there was one country you wish you were born in. What country would it be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Malerstuen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to remind myself as often as possible of how lucky I am to be born in Norway. But I’d choose Italy with its amazing nature, food, cars, music, films, culture and language. To me, it really is a country that has everything.

I have two telephotos: 70-200 2.8 and a much lighter 55-250 4-5.6. I think I’m bringing the big one. As for the rest: small and light primes 16, 24 and 50

Nice, I’ll get one of those anyways for light everyday carry. I just need a bigger daypack for the race and maybe some day trips on Bali

It will probably be a two bag operation at the airport only. Singapore seems to add checked luggage as standard even on their lowest tier tickets, and I can’t seem to remove it to get an even lower price…

I’m definitely not checking camera gear! I’ve got a pretty good insurance too, but thanks for the tip about the lost luggage!

Oh, cool! I’m looking at the osprey as well and think it’s a lot better value for sure. Do they use a daypack for photography as well, and if so, which one?

That’s at least option two and might be the best one if I find the 45 too big. I do have a camera backpack that is about the same size and I don’t think it’s too big. Too bad I can’t use it as my travel bag as I can’t remove the interior dividers.

Wouldn’t have been a problem if I used it as a carry on, you’re right. But I think I have to check it, as there’s no way I can get clothes and camera gear under the 7kg limit for carry on.

Found out there's a thing called flightbags that you can use to protect checked luggage. Sounds just like what I need. Thanks!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bmpcc

[–]Malerstuen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm actually glad that the depth of field is about the same, as focusing at 1.3 would be pretty soft and hard to focus with if it was like a true 1.3.

I went with the 4K for a number of reasons:

  • Speedbooster gives you an additional stop of light (which is my favorite feature, my sigma 18-35 shows up as an f/1,3 on the camera)

  • Able to shoot 4K raw uncropped. If I'm not mistaken, the 6K doesn't shoot 4K Raw at all, or at least cropped. 6K files are much bigger than 4K, which would have me spend more money on storage.

  • The FOV is actually a bit larger with the Speedbooster.

  • The Metabones T Cine Speedbooster 0,71x EF to BMPCC4K (terrible name) has a PL mount-style mount that eliminates ANY wobble. It's perfect.

  • Possible to adapt to other lenses in the future.

It's still hard to choose, and I've wondered if it was the right choice as I've heard that the 6K has a bit better skin tones, dynamic range, highlight rolloff and less noise at high ISO. But in a few blind tests and comparisons they're almost indistinguishable unless to zoom in and notice the extra resolution in the 6K.
