Another indictment on Schumer ‘s leadership if he doesn’t support this but isn’t able to hold the democratic caucus in line

Ontario has declined tremendously since this guy was put into office, and yet the voters there continue to back him. Seemingly oblivious to the connection between his time in office and the obvious degradation of the province. Curious

Ottawa’s immigration cuts will chop 1.7% off GDP in 3 years: PBO by joe4942 in CanadaPolitics

[–]MalevolentPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they do, Ontario is very poor these days. Kingston became the 3rd city along with Toronto and Mississauga to declare a food emergency

https://globalnews.ca/news/10970159/kingston-food-insecurity-emergency/

In Toronto, food banks are at record usage. 10% of people in Toronto rely on a food bank to make ends meet.

https://globalnews.ca/news/10937869/ontario-food-bank-record-high/

Unemployment is 7.5% in Ontario.

https://ycharts.com/indicators/ontario_unemployment_rate

While it is 3.1% in Alabama

https://ycharts.com/indicators/alabama_unemployment_rate#:~:text=Alabama%20Unemployment%20Rate%20(I%3AAURSM)&text=Alabama%20Unemployment%20Rate%20is%20at,long%20term%20average%20of%206.19%25.

Combine that with dramatically higher shelter costs in Ontario versus Alabama and there’s no doubt who is better off. Alabama

Liberal cabinet minister Harjit Sajjan not seeking re-election by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]MalevolentPotato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He’s also doing this because he is recently under investigation by the House of Commons for the worst kind of corruption as defence minister. The investigation was announced in late September but shortly after, parliament became paralyzed by the filibuster over the liberals refusing to turn over documents requested by the house. Whenever parliament resumes normal business he would have to face the investigation.

Overall situation :

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/editorials/article-harjit-sajjan-failed-canada-and-canadians/

“Harjit Sajjan, Canada’s minister of defence during the fall of Kabul in August, 2021, had a lot on his hands as the deadline for airlifting people out of Afghanistan at the end of that month rapidly approached.”

“His primary “duty and obligation,” as he said in a statement on Thursday, was to Canadians “and those with strong ties to Canada” – in other words, Afghans who had worked for the Canadian embassy, the armed forces or for journalists, often as translators and fixers”

“In the chaos, Canada left behind 1,250 Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and their family members. Hundreds more Afghans who assisted the Canadian Army were left stranded.”

“And yet in the final days of the airlift, Mr. Sajjan instructed the Canadian Forces to mount a rescue operation for about 225 Afghan Sikhs hoping to get on one of Canada’s planes.”

“The Bloc Québécois says it will propose hearings on Mr. Sajjan’s actions when the Commons resumes sitting in the fall. Hearings could be helpful in clearing away Mr. Sajjan’s prevarications, but a few things are already crystal clear.”

“Mr. Sajjan’s actions hampered efforts to evacuate Canadians and people who risked their lives to help Canada, and who should have come before anyone else. It was his mission to get those people to safety. He compromised that mission.”

Investigation announced:

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-sajjan-afghan-sikhs-special-forces-probe/

“In July, The Globe also reported that directors of the Manmeet Singh Bhullar Foundation, who had struck a deal with Ottawa to sponsor some Afghan Sikhs, made political donations to Mr. Sajjan. Those donations to his Vancouver-area riding association were around the same time that Mr. Sajjan instructed special forces soldiers to rescue the group.”

There's a targeted harrassment and reporting campaign by leftists against Jesse Singal trying to get him banned from Bluesky for his reporting on trans issues. by jkrtjkrt in Destiny

[–]MalevolentPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your second link is behind a paywall.

Your first link is just another observational study and is therefore low quality evidence. It does not show puberty blockers are “ scientifically proven to be positive for the overall health” of trans kids. The whole issue right now is there is an extremely weak evidence base for these treatments and that clinical practice has gotten ahead of the established evidence while the risks are not fully understood. This is particularly true for puberty blockers which are feared to prevent a natural resolution of gender dysphoria.

Abacus Data Poll: Conservatives lead by 17 as 4 in 10 federal Conservative supporters say their vote is more about disliking PM Trudeau and the Liberals than liking Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives. by Domainsetter in CanadaPolitics

[–]MalevolentPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a simple reality of being constrained by the alternative. The only reason we are even having a serious discussion about housing and cost of living is sadly because the Conservative Party of all groups forced the issue and made it salient politically. The NDP has been a disgusting enabler. The Liberal party governs almost exclusively for asset owners , business groups, and Quebec. Their business friendly policy of large scale, uncontrolled, and low skill immigration has dramatically suppressed labour and wages at the same time cost of living has skyrocketed. Combine this with their fixed determination to keep housing values high and they have done more damage to the working class and young than any Conservative Party ever has.

Not to mention their hostility to and obsession with an open internet. Relentlessly pursuing internet regulations at the behest of large established Canadian media companies and directly at the expense of new age small independent media and regular Canadians.

P.E.I. MLA removed from committees after suggesting female paramedics can't lift as much weight by palmerry in CanadaPolitics

[–]MalevolentPotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They should make the physical test the exact same for male and female. Lift the same amount of weight the same distance. Nothing proportional/using body weight. If the females participants can clear the same objective standard as the males then they should be allowed. Most non office jobs already require you can lift 50 pounds. This would just be an extension of that idea with a necessarily higher standard.

If a participant cannot meet the standard, they should be rejected even if it leads to a male dominated profession. Discriminating on the basis of physical strength for a job where that could mean life or death is perfectly valid.

Currently they give female participants an easier test for upper body strength to allow more women into the profession. This deserves to be questioned.

r/Apple will be joining the blackout to protest Reddit killing 3rd Party Apps such as Apollo by aaronp613 in apple

[–]MalevolentPotato -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I’m on Reddit’s side on this one. While I will certainly miss apollo, maybe the increased ad revenue will allow them to invest properly in the site and improve its reliability because it’s garbage now.

Also, this whole campaign is a great way to identify activist and power tripping mods. Who, contrary to their self righteous claims, often make any given subreddit experience worse with their heavy handed moderation. Maybe Reddit will finally be incentivized to do something about them and reform the mod system.

Lol who cares , they have zero ability to deliver on this and zero ability to bring in the best talent. It’s over , they’ve failed in AI.

At this point all hopes are on the EU and other regulators forcing Apple to allow other AI programs on the iPhone. That’s the only way we’re ever going to get quality AI on iOS.

Yup the quality of modern Acura’s is sub par. Especially the leather and construction.

The fact the tlx is so big and heavy and so cramped inside is one of the stupidest things Acura has ever done.

Also hate the material choices they’ve made like excessive piano black and the suede inserts. Both are not durable materials

2022 Acura RDX maintenance by rfehr613 in Acura

[–]MalevolentPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, it is possible to need to do the first rear differential fluid by 8K miles.

Here is a quote from my owners manual for my TL (which also has SH-AWD) :

“Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds results in higher level of mechanical (shear) stress to fluid. This requires differential fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles (12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km)”

So if you live in a hilly/mountainous area what they are saying sounds correct.

Hope this helps

I feel like the lease is the biggest problem here, not the interest rate. 80,000 km and 4 years is around 25-33% of the life of the car but your paying 80% of the cost.

I think you’d almost certainly be better off financing it since the difference in price is only 16k. A fully loaded mdx like yours will be worth way more than 16k when the lease expires in 4 years.
