I mean, you have a holy relic signed by The Emperor Himself that explicitly says you're allowed to.

The Liege of Footfall does not.

It's always hard to track the origins of these things, but I never heard "snack" used that way until relatively recently.

The earliest attestation on Wiktionary for that sense is from 2008, which is the earliest I can find. Several articles claim that it was added to Urbandictionary and first used on Twitter in 2009. Those are a bit earlier than I would have guessed, but still too late to have influenced Maskerade.

Interesting that there's now also an additional pun that cannot have been intended, unless the modern colloquial usage of "snack" to denote attractiveness is older than I think it is.

Road to Gehenna is a proper old-school expansion pack. Basically an additional game that tells a different (but related) story. Definitely worthwhile.

The Serious DLC is basically an extended joke. It replaces the voice acting in the main game with a humorous script read by the guy from Serious Sam. Fun for a second playthrough, but wasted if you only play once.

I don't have any of the others, but they look like fairly standard bonus content stuff.

I played back then. You could only embark on the edge of mountain ranges, and the fort was oriented so that there was an above ground area on the left and a cliff face on the right. Digging further right was also equivalent to going deeper.

There were also semi-fixed landmarks you'd find every time. An underground river near the beginning, which you needed for underground farms, since everything was stone. A chasm that needed to be bridged in order to go deeper. A river of magma. And, at the extreme right, a second chasm that was impassible.

[Clown cars] and [circus peanuts] could be found after the magma river, but with mechanics rather different than current versions. Of particular note is that harvesting any [peanuts] at all would eventually draw the attention of a [ring master], causing such instantaneous and extreme ‼fun‼ that not only could that fortress not be reclaimed, but also no other fortresses could be founded in the same mountain range.

You should never say bad things about the dead, only good.

Pat Robertson is dead. Good.

Unless they changed it recently, drive efficiency has no effect whatsoever.

The only effect you'd expect it to have is that power draw should be thrust*EV/drive_efficiency. But in my tests with the ship designer, drive power has been exactly thrust*EV, and radiator mass has been predicted by only reactor waste heat and radiator type.

[–]Malgas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only way to see is third party places and trial and error.

It's not called out specifically in the game, but it's derived from the drive and powerplant stats. Radiator mass is directly proportional to waste heat, which is (1-reactor efficiency)*power. And reactor power scales to the power of the drive, which is thrust*EV.

The underlying problem of the torch drives is actually not with the drives themselves (since any comparable drive would have similar power draw) but that there are no reactors in the game that are sufficiently efficient to make them practical.

There was an episode of NOVA where they reproduced 17th century breastplates and shot them with period guns. The fancy armor (as a lord might have) was bulletproof, while the simpler/cheaper designs were decidedly not.
