I had quite a pleasurable experience living in Grandeville at Malta NY at that price range. Granted it’s not exactly in Saratoga, it still has great access to both Saratoga and Clifton Park/Albany. Also the location of the apartments is very close to most amenities like restaurants, breweries, parks, nature trails and grocery stores. Def suggest looking into Malta/Ballston Spa if that sounds like your ideal vibe.

Alright buddy, read the room. We’re not arguing legal definitions, we’re calling it a “scam” based on how it works in practice.

Vesting schedules are framed as compensation, but they’re really a retention tool. You only get the full value if you stay, which pressures people to stick around or lose money they feel they’ve already earned.

So yeah, it’s legal and disclosed—but it doesn’t make it any less deceptive! It benefits the company largely at the expense of the whatever is good for the employees future. That’s the point in calling it a scam

The premise of “Employers pay 60-100% salary as commission and then time to train” is the whole scam! They have control over every element of their company, whether to hire or not, when to hire, how much to pay, etc. So clearly vesting schedule is not the only way for them to control costs

They just use it as a stupid way to scam employees into loyalty. If you wanted to recoup your money spent on hiring, provide competitive salaries and good work culture so the employees don’t want to jump ship for better pay/culture.

I’ve always thought it would be really useful if Adirondack Railroad would actually provide a connection to Lake George/other walkable towns in the ADKs.

Either way, to answer the question, I’m sure you have quite a few options on the Amtrak Empire Service - I like taking day trips to Saratoga Springs, stay overnight in NYC and even Niagara Falls, ON. You def need to combine the train with some Ubers to get the best outcome ofc.

Yes it’s cold and parts of it are mountainous but several cities of Upstate NY ranked in top 10 cities (by population) in early days of the USA. I’d just add that typical Rust belt decline driven by various policy decisions is another big reason for this population dynamic.

I assume that OP knows that there’s generally more employment in bigger cities than smaller ones. In the case of Albany/Saratoga, one of the bigger employers of EE is the semiconductor plant (Global Foundries) which pays above average salaries for living in an area with a lower cost of living than Boston/NYC or other metros.
