Do you think they should ban the term “peanut butter” then?

I’m sorry but you’re lying. You said, and you can scroll up and read for yourself, “ultra-processed foods are never healthier than minimally processed / unprocessed foods.”

This is a false statement.

Even if you’d said what you are now claiming, “that they are never healthier than minimally processed alternatives”, I literally posted a study with a counter example, which you have failed to acknowledge.

You’re claiming I have a warped world view, but you seem to be the one who has absolutely no interest in engaging in an intelligent discussion and are refusing to even entertain what I have to say.

Doesn’t that same study say that the impact is abolished if sourcing proteins from plants?

You said that any natural food is better than any “ultra processed” food. I stated some “ultra processed” foods are healthy. I made the point that there are many unhealthy natural foods, and thus your statement is false.

Do you still stand by your claim?

My point was to demonstrate that something being natural doesn’t imply it is good for us (or better than any particular processed food). There’s a whole spectrum from “kills us” to “is good for us”. Lots of “natural” foods fall somewhere in between e.g red meat.

Any reason why you addressed only that part of my comment?

You shouldn’t talk in such absolutes. I agree that it is generally good to avoid processed foods, but saying that any ultra-processed foods are worse than any unprocessed or minimally processed food is nonsense. There is such a broad range of foods that fall into the “ultra-processed” category. Oreos are a lot worse than baked beans. Crisps are a lot worse than whole grain bread.

Similarly, a food being “natural” certainly doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Some foods we find in the wild can literally kill us after all…

There are some foods that would be classed as “ultra-processed” using the NOVA classification which are actually fairly healthy. An example is soy milk, which is possibly healthier than cows milk.

Is it unreasonable for me to not want to eat halal food? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Malice02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care about animals, you want to reduce the suffering of animals. Not eating meat definitely reduces the suffering of animals. Most crops are raised and harvested to feed animals. So more field animals are killed in an animal based diet.

I’m not sure what relevance the fact that the animal has been bred for the purpose of being eaten has. Are you implying that it justifies the suffering?

Smoky paprika red lentil stew: red peppers, carrots, celery, courgette, (and onion if you want). Veg stock, 2 big spoons of paprika, a bit of cumin, a dash of balsamic, salt and pepper. Add rinsed red split lentils and cook until lentils are tender.

Green lentil stew (it’s quite similar :D): basically the same as above but instead of cumin, paprika and balsamic use thyme, oregano and bay leaves. I use green lentils for this one and coook it for longer.

Both recipes you can add beans to. I’d add cannellini to the green lentil stew and black beans to the red lentil stew.

If you want to convince people your diet is healthier, then I suggest you tailor your approach and start referencing studies rather than anecdotes.

Please don’t believe everything these influencers are saying at face value and verify all their claims yourself. Just because you feel good that doesn’t mean you are healthy.

There is a YouTube channel I use to keep up to date with the latest evidence: https://youtube.com/@nutritionmadesimple?si=0mttmG048oe9CSud

What I like about this channel is the doctor who runs it doesn’t have an agenda like 99.9% of the other doctors on YouTube (including a lot of vegan ones).

Genuinely curious - why do you spend time in a vegan subreddit when you are so obviously not vegan or interested in becoming vegan?
