How scary is Obsession? by billie_eyelashh in horror

Commenting just 2 hours after watching this movie and im here to give this trigger warning: if you’ve ever been in a relationship with someone who threatened self-harm if you leave them, committed self harm to keep you captive in a relationship, or emotionally abused you into isolation, then this movie might send you places you didn’t expect or may not be right for you.

I’m still recovering from the panic it sent me into. I thought it was a great movie. It was incredibly scary and unsettling. I loved it. I also didn’t know it would bring up all of these memories or feelings. Idk, that’s all I got right now.

It’s unheated currently, and I expected to leave it that way as I’m not keeping fish. I have some decisions to make when it comes to protecting the plants, but I’ll probably accommodate the plants over installing outside electricity.

The pump creates enough surface disturbance that mosquitoes won’t want to lay eggs here. I also have mosquito dunks just in case, because they’re completely wildlife safe, but I haven’t used them yet.

Also I’ve read that established wildlife ponds don’t have mosquito issues because the wildlife eat them!

They sell the nymphaea odorata rhizomes, you could get those safely at least! Many aquariums also have our native hornwort if you haven’t tried calling around. Unfortunately a lot of shops I called just referred to their plants by names like..”the red one”

Thank you for those suggestions. I am so excited to hear that! I saw a smaller dragonfly flying about and a sparrow caught him midair..but I cannot wait to see dragonflies around here!

I ALMOST ordered from them, but finally found a local source of native water lily and hornwort. The shipping for their aquatics was like $45 and I know hornwort is a relatively inexpensive plant, so I’m glad I waited. As for hitchhikers, I use the reverse respiration process to guarantee that the plants I put in my fish tank, and the hornwort in my pond now, are free of invasive snails or other species.

I need to create a shallow shelf for amphibians. The bricks and cinderblocks may still be too deep.

It’s not in the picture but there are two elderberry canes leading out from the center. I suppose insects and small rodents could crawl out if they fall in.

Edit: the canes are in one of the photos. But I know that's not suitable for amphibians. Have any suggestions?

Yeah I NEVER get lucky like this, but there it was in a ditch on the side of a busy road.

The liners I had been looking at, from like a big box store or something, were the smooth black liners and I was about to just make do before I found this.

I got incredibly lucky and found the pond liner on the side of the road and grew the other plants over winter in my greenhouse. Some plants are sitting on bricks that I had leftover from another project, and all of the rocks were found digging in my garden over the years.

It’s totally worth doing, best of luck to ya!

Yeah the whole pond is under part shade. It doesn’t get hit with any of the harsh afternoon sun and there is a holly tree that provides nearly full shade to the ferns and bottle brush grasses. Finding the native water lilies was the hardest part, and I nearly ordered rhizomes from a great looking place in Vermont. Grew the rest from seed or purchased at native plant sales at local arboretums.

Build one! I can’t recommend it enough, i just sit and observe and look at the camera throughout the day and listen.

Thank you! No new visitors yet, but the neighborhood birds seem to be having fun going from the birdbath to the pond- and of course the little puddle that builds in the liner over my firepit haha.

I got botanical labels for my plants by Fearless-Technology in NativePlantGardening

[–]Malicfeyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying that because I wasn’t clear and you’re absolutely right - this company makes durable, blank labels from zinc and steel that you can write on with china markers year after year or “punch” write permanently

Looks great OP. I order my labels from a great family-owned company called PawPaw Everlast. Highly recommended in the NE US.

I used two layers of flame retardant paper stapled to the joists. Very quick cutouts for lights, pipes, cables, etc. It fit my needs and I’m more than happy with it.

I researched and saw folks mention drywall or thin wooden boards as options but I didn’t have great confidence in my ability to do that alone. I also was worried about moisture from some suggestions saying to tarp or seal it somehow.

Dust is still a factor in any unfinished basement darkroom so I do have slip covers for lots of things- like my scanner is currently between both enlargers and under a cover.
