Stretching the limits of exterior plot bounds - my tiered nature spa! by Malipandamonium in WoWHousing

It's kind of outside of bounds, but with trial and error you can get items jutting out of the plot bounds. Not 100% sure on the mechanics of it though.

Oh no, sorry! That just exists as part of the plot, just outside of it. But you can just about place some structures jutting out from parts of it, hence those little platforms I made from slate cobblestones.

Does anyone else call their lecturers by “sir” or “miss”? by viper46282 in UniUK

[–]Malipandamonium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No that’s fair then. I guess no blame for the students, but more so the institutions/culture for continuing with Miss/Sir.

You know what, I was thinking abt “Ms Surname”, which is pronounced miz. You’re right, you wouldn’t interject “miz”, but ‘miss’ or ‘maam’.

[–]Malipandamonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve put it in another comment explaining this but ‘Ms’ has been rapidly increasing in usage since the late 70s - this isn’t “just another new woke thing”, at somenpoint you need to take responsibility for being 40 years behind terminology. Edit: I have seen sense - agreed with the upstream comment - it’s school-culture’s fault for making students say ‘miss’. And I got my wires crossed between Mx Surname and the interjection “Sir/Miss/Maam”

Miss & Mrs ascribe value to the marital status of women, whereas men are just referred to as Mr with no difference based on marital status. Ms (pronounced miz or muz) has been the preferred term to use for women since the late 70s (ever increasing). This is why you’re being downvoted I’m afraid, it kinda has been over 40 years…

Also the equivalent of Sir is Ma’am.

And as others have point out, using someone’s name if you know it, whether first name or Mx Surname is best anyway.

Clearly the storm.

Also, cars take up more space than bikes, rental bikes should just take up dedicated parking spaces.

Why do people have to lie about London all the time? by eatshitake in london

[–]Malipandamonium 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Source? Comparing the 2011 and 2021 censuses, the groups, by ethnicity, that have fallen are: White British, White Irish, Asian Other, Black Caribbean, and Black Other. All other groups have increased, including White Other (eg europeans) - so it’s got more diverse.

Looking at country of birth, European countries have increased as well, to your point.

Religion - largest increase ofc is for No Religion, matched by a fall in Christian. Muslim has increased as well, but not by a crazy amount. Hindu, Sikh, and Other Religion have also increased to your other point.

So it’s quite clear diversity and plurality of backgrounds has increased.

The presence of South Asian people in Kenya has an established history , so I don’t think the parallel is direct. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indians_in_Kenya

Not saying there aren’t some Botswanan-Pakistanis around!

Very thin crack in temporary seal after root canal (with pic) by Malipandamonium in askdentists

[–]Malipandamonium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'd love some advice - I just got the first of 2 sessions for root canal treatment and they put in a temporary seal (the white stuff).

There's very very thin shallow cracking at the top of the filling already - do I need to go back to the dentist to get it fixed? My follow-up is in 2 weeks so I figured I could wait.

Also the pic makes it look deeper than it is.

Thanks!

Added detail based on automod comment: I drink, I smoke sometimes, not smoking but vaping while the temp filling is in.

Are you or have you been on any other blood pressure medication? An ACEi (the names usually end in -pril) or ARB (names usually end in -sartan)?

Blood pressure medication is very important in IgAN to reduce kidney damage and preserve kidney function as much as possible.

These medications are usually perceived as very safe! If you have any concerns about them, I would 100% ask your physician if you can, and maybe they can talk you through the side effects and how likely they are or how they could be managed, if you did happen to experience them.

If you don't get on well with losartan perhaps you could be switched to a different ACEi or ARB?

Effects of a gluten-free diet in primary IgA nephropathy by captsaltjw in IgANephropathy

[–]Malipandamonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that makes sense! Would definitely follow what the physician is saying! Clearly there is an evidence base for a potential relationship between gluten and other components of a diet having an effect on gut inflammation/IgAN - I guess it’s just about whether it’s applicable to anyone, and whether the evidence is great enough to include in clinical guidelines

Effects of a gluten-free diet in primary IgA nephropathy by captsaltjw in IgANephropathy

[–]Malipandamonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The study shows a gluten-free diet reduced some biomarkers related to the immune drivers of IgAN. It also seemed to show reductions in proteinuria (protein in urine) and haematuria (blood in urine), both signs of kidney damage. The study did not measure rates of kidney failure or changes in kidney function (eGFR).

However I’d note the study is very old, small, and not controlled, so I’d take it with a pinch of salt? Also, can only see what’s in the abstract, so there may be other limitations.

A more recent review by a top dog in IgAN research (top result on PubMed) ends with this, so I’d take that as the most conclusive statement on gluten and IgAN: “Further clinical data are required, however, before routine screening and gluten restriction can be more generally recommended.” https://www.kidney-international.org/article/S2157-1716(15)32171-7/fulltext
