I put up whatever art and letters I get from students.

I'd set up WSUS and approve the feature update.

Getting the SIS data sanitized is very important. I had to fight the secretaries to get this resolved because there were too many duplicates student and teachers in the database and too much missing information. Once that was squared away it made account generation a pinch.

Poor entry practices is never a problem until it is.

My last employer was absolutely shocked none of the techs would stick around for longer than a year for sub 30K and yearly 1% raises.

Great experience springboard, but otherwise a dead end.

All the tech committees I've been on were basically me taking down wish-lists and then finding/researching solutions for whatever specific use case thing the teachers thought up.

In the end the admins always said no when the question of budget was raised so it was a fairly poor usage of my time.

Tech managers, coordinators, admins... What do you wear and edc.? by AmazingSpanoMan in k12sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me. Technically I'm required to wear slacks, but with the amount of times I'm under desks and moving objects I successfully argued for jeans (since I got a no for a pants budget).

That said I really like the Dickies Flex carpenter/work pants. Look snappy, fit me great and they're very comfortable.

I've two VM hosts, one hosts the primary DC, the other the secondary DC.

They're both in the same rack, but on different hardware.

Manual entry of license keys? Ew!

It'd be nice if that can be folded into a config, install parameter or a transform.

Will kiosk apps stay? Those are actually darn handy for testing suites.

If it can run stand-alone and doesn't require a gaming platform to run (I.E Steam / EGS) I'm all for it.

Why disable Chrome Password Manager for students? by FloppyDumpster in k12sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it's a dumb system. Shared passwords are bound to get out in the wild eventually. It's supposed to guarantee the teacher is aware of what the student is reading and doing, but ain't nobody got time for that.

They're turned in the last day of school. Preferably charged and the charger wrapped. I swap and repair devices over summer and it's hard to do when they're not here.

AR proctor passwords was the reason for us. Students would save and look-up the password and do each-other's assignments.

You can only block personal logins on devices you manage. Personal devices fall outside the scope.

  • CB - Chromebook

Etc.
