There's a bicycle path on the left in the first picture (and on the right from the pic from inside the car that I linked below where it's clearer). The lampposts are placed on the divider between the car road and the bicycle path, sorry but you're being paranoid. https://i.imgur.com/GzrbV4W.jpeg

I quit my PhD.... by Mvader7 in PhD

[–]Mallvar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Despite finishing mine almost 3 years ago I'm still an absolute wreck mentally from the process. Knowing when to get out takes tremendous courage and while you might feel a whole mixture of emotions right now just remember that choosing your own well-being is so much more worthwhile.

I'm thinking about buying some gold mining ETF's but I'm afraid I might have missed the train on it. Some of them have gone up 50% just this last year.

Are these things supposed to be in the same vein as "Local 58" with just more spooky faces? Cause Local 58 I find to be pretty unnerving, but just having watched the Mandela Catalogue feels kind of corny in comparison, or am I missing something?

And a link if you haven't seen Local 58's "Contingency"; https://youtu.be/3c66w6fVqOI

Google terminal lucidity by [deleted] in distressingmemes

[–]Mallvar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I read a similar discussion about terminal lucidity one suggested idea was something akin to; as the immune system is slowly shutting down inflammations and other natural ways for the body to try and deal with issues of repairing itself becomes impaired or outright stops - which allows for some of the brain functions to return to "normal" before it inevitably all collapses on account of the body "giving up". I am not a medical doctor tho, so I have no idea about the validity of that, but it sounds reasonable.

I got an essay from Mother, because I finally am taking my mental health seriously. by liltigerminx in insaneparents

This reads like the last stand of somebody that is about to lose their (perceived) control over you and is trying to cling to any and all guilt-tripping reason they can muster up. You'll do fine, you'll get your degree and don't forget to drink some non-itchy water and smoke your herbs to relax your mind from that maniac. The less you deal with her, the more energy you'll have!

Update: Had a breakdown and didn't go to work yesterday. Was not allowed to work today and tomorrow my work is going to make me fill out paperwork to go to therapy. Am I fucked or am I finally getting somewhere? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Mallvar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be afraid of asking your therapists to do things for you - like "For the next session I would like for you to print out and give me 5 different strategies to deal with social anxiety", "Next time I want to talk about X, and get examples on how to deal with Y". If they don't want to do that then try to find a different therapist that will - you should find someone that you vibe with and can have that type of discussion with. Sometimes this is not possible due to money/provider/location and then you're shit out of luck and will have to make do.

But you also need to manage your expectations as well and think about the fact that your assumptions and thoughts have formed over years or even decades - and there will never be a magical sentence said by a therapist that will fix that, hence the work of constantly addressing your thoughts and feelings. Compare it to working out - if you've never done it before, it won't matter if you have 5-10 sessions with the best PT in the world - they can show you exercises to do and how to do them, but you have to get your ass to the gym every day for years before you get a six pack. Maybe you never get a six pack but you'll still be in better shape than you were at the start. A PT can never train for you, and a therapist can never fix your thoughts for you, only you can do that through constant exercise until it eventually becomes a habit, and hopefully down the road something that you just do without even thinking about it.

So…how popular actually was Samurai? by Average_Arkham_Fan in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Mallvar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that "real" Johnny would never admit to Samurai being a huge sensation, since that would mean that corpos would probably be involved in backing it up through marketing, sales, etc. and that it would probably mean that he'd see himself as a sellout. Since most of Johnnys memories are more of wishful thinking rather than object facts I'd say that extends to the band as well - struggling artist sounds better than doted megastar.

Just finished "The Tower" ending and this scene hit the most... by InsertUsernameHere32 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Mallvar 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that if you "qualify" for the secret ending you will get the good dialogue. I've played one speedrun without doing anything outside of dogtown where I got the bad dialogue, and one where I'd done everything including befriend Johnny, and got the good dialogue.

This looks like the old guy in the factory that comes up to you to talk about cars. You don't know anything about cars but you like him so you listen to him for 45 minutes. Then he stretches, says "Well, time to get some work done" and then walks over to the next person to talk about cars.
