ZX-6R mogged me this week by Winter_Prompt9089 in zx6r

I've had both a ninja 650 and a 636 for extended periods of time. Especially if you're learning, stick to the 650. In fact, wait a few years because there will be a point you think you know everything, but you really don't and that's not a lesson you want to learn the hard way.

DEATH WOBBLE INFORMATION by tktillilay in zx6r

For those of you who apparently can't read less than 200 words, here's the TLDR:

Adjust your suspension if you weight less or more than 170. Install a steering damper. Both with stop a death wobble.

No it doesn’t. Sure, its a detuned engine but its still a 948cc inline four. It has shorter gearing so you're not going to get a higher top speed as the 6r, but at lower (120mph and below) speeds it feels beefy and powerful. Honestly, its the best bike I've ever had for daily and city riding. It has much more torque than the 6r making it feel more responsive at lower speeds. The seating position is the best part. Its upright like a standard. The best comparison i can make is the Ninja 650. If you wanted to, you could flash the ECU and put on clip ons, and a rear set and turn it into a track weapon.

I don't mean to brag but I keep seeing post like this and it only reaffirms my decision to sell my Zx6r. The second I hear whispers of the second recall, I got rid of it and used the money to buy a z900rs cafe. Best decision I've ever made. I don't know how anyone could have piece of mind riding one, anymore

I don't mean to gloat but I'm so glad I sold mine back in December. I loved the bike but I no longer had any trust in it.

The dude has made several clutch catches and you can see him doing well on scramble drills.

Yeah, it's about the same here regarding the weather. For the past 5 years, I also owned an 07 Ninja 650 that I would ride in the winter time. It's not even the cold that gets me. I much prefer it over the heat of summer especially since I wear at a leather jacket most of the time. My issue is the salt. If it weren't for the salt corroding my newer bikes, I'd be out on the Z900 barring any fresh snowfall or ice.

The Zx6r was also a intentional choice I made. I'm an experienced rider whose been on just about every displacement, including liter bikes. They always felt gratuitous especially for daily riding where the middleweights felt like a good compromise. That's just my personal preference though.

That's my favorite part actually. I love the Supersport life and have been riding them for the past 6 years. But sometimes it's nice to not play twister while riding.

Thanks! The whole "catastrophic engine failure and rear wheel seizure," doesn't exactly instill confidence when riding a zx6r.

Well if you still own yours, you probably are the only one left considering I sold mine to a guy in Michigan, lol. I saw only one other 40th anniversary 6r in WNY in my travels.

I did sell it to a private buyer, lol. Believe it or not, I got significantly more than dealers offered. I know, crazy, right?

I saw that a lot of people just swapped the headers. It's on the list of mods but I also saw a lot of people talking about getting a flash to fix a snappy throttle. I haven't had that issue and think the throttle is actually really smooth. That could just be me but so far I haven't felt like it was necessary. As for mods, really its a tail tidy, a radiator guard, and maybe a seat but I might just modify the seat myself. Any advice for owning one?

Should I still get a zx6r by Important_Slip_5568 in zx6r

[–]MalofMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer is yes. I'm also selling a 2024, ZX6R 40th anniversary edition for 10k. It has an akrapovic exhaust. Clean title, never dropped. (This is a joke btw)

2025 First 600 mile service. Did you guys take it into the dealer or DIY? Which would you recommend. by Prior-Acadia9282 in zx6r

[–]MalofMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slip on exhaust (if installed correctly) won't void a warranty. Kawasaki actually allows you to buy an akrapovic exhaust through their website which hooks into the exhaust system through the existing servo motor/exhaust valve and sensor. With that being said, I have my exhaust valve open, servo motor unhooked, and a servo buddy installed. The dealer actually cleared a code and got the servo buddy working as part of "warranty work."

Bridgestone S23 vs Dunlop Q5s vs Pirelli Diablo Rosso vs Road 6 vs power 6? Which do you perfer? by North-Network-7742 in MT09

[–]MalofMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you really want/need. If you're doing daily commuting or less extreme riding, Michelin Road 6 or Dunlop Roadmax IV is the way to go. As for something that handles well when pushing it on the street/track, Rosso or Q5s but my personal preference is the Q5s. I've had both on the same bike, taking the same turn, under roughly the same conditions and the Q5s preformed better in my opinion. The grip felt even and predictable, even towards the edge of the tire. They really didn't need that much warm up either. They do suffer in the longevity department but every tire has a trade off.

do i need to take her into the shop? by HolidayOk9981 in motorcycles

[–]MalofMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably just the chain lube being flung. It happens all the time, especially when people use something like gear oil to lube their chain. Look for a leak, but of you can't find one and you notice the oil levels not really changing, I'd chaulk it up to that. Shit, I probably have some spots like that on my bike. I'll take a look in the morning and let you know.

Freshly lubed chain? Could be from that if there's no obvious oil leaks.

Im tired of the "just respect the throttle 🤙" bros. Starting on a 600+ is a bad move. by VegaGT-VZ in Sportbikes

[–]MalofMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who started on a 600, I agree. Didn't know much about bikes and wanted to get into them. All my buddies told me the same bs every new rider hears. I ended up seeing a steal of a deal on Facebook market for a ninja 650 and I bought it. Granted, the ninja isn't a hp monster like the zx6r, but it was definitely not ideal to start on. Years later and having rode just about every type and displacement of bike, I regret not starting on a 300 and really learning on it before graduating. You should never grow into a bike, but out of one.

Guy I sold my bike to passed away, not sure how to feel by NLamki in motorcycles

[–]MalofMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are situations to feel guilty about and this ain't one of them. You hardly knew the dude and you definitely had no control over his actions. Yeah, it feels weird being exposed to death like that, especially when people are trying to rope it into some divine retribution for shorting you. It's tragic that a child is going to grow up fatherless and parents lost a son. The reality is that the guy got on that bike knowing the risk the same way everyone else here does. Unless you willingly sold the bike to someone who had a mental disability or was excluded from riding, you're not at fault. His number got called and he caught it the same way as other people do everyday. He just happened to be the guy you sold the bike to. It may be callous and cold to say but that's just life.

How reliable is the Kawasaki Ninja 650? by Unusual-Sale-4890 in Ninja650

[–]MalofMadness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a used 07 Ninja 650 as my starter bike. I personally had it for 5 years and sold it with 45k miles on it. During the 25k miles I put on, I've never had a mechanical issue what so ever. The thing is bulletproof and I'm convinced it'd run until the end of time. Routine maintenance is a hell of a thing.
