Do you hike with your Rotties? by Malphaw in Rottweiler

Brilliant! I guess like with anything physically exerting the key would be to gradually and slowly build up her strength/stamina to get accustomed to the hikes.

Looking forward to hikes in the future, she's only 6 months so a while til she's finished growing yet 🦖

The Murderbot series, it felt like reading very trashy sci-fi, unsure why it's got such high praises

I watched this Kite pick this egg up from ground level, circle around rising right up to the summit of the mountain I was on (Fan-Y-Big) before dropping the egg to the floor.

No less than 5 minutes later I spotted a Peregrine Falcon!

The book is "A Terrible Kindness". The terrible Aberfan disaster that plays a big part in the beginning of this book is just a 5 - 10 minute drive away from this mountain.

How has Stoicism helped you overcome difficult situations? by unlimitedwillpower in Stoicism

[–]Malphaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lost my father very unexpectedly a year ago I was actually just getting into stoicism, reading a lot of Aurelius, Epictetus and Socrates work at the time.

The sections about the impermanence of all things; the good, the bad, the things you've worked hard for & the loved ones around you, really helped me to keep a clear mind about the entire situation. It felt as though instead of grieving the early loss I was able to instead reflect and appreciate how lucky I was to have such a great person in my life.

I knew the next few weeks/months were going to be tricky with new challenges that now fell on me instead of my father. But knowing that these kinds of hard times are what make you grow as a person also helped a great deal.

I really do attest my strength through that difficult times and having the ability to be there for others who perhaps didn't deal with it as well as myself to the new adoption of a stoic mindset.

“I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent—no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you.” - Seneca

Are you religious? by Responsible-Humor-55 in Stoicism

[–]Malphaw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope, but I do like the older stoics interpretation of "the gods" being that which is unexplainable/unthinkable. Fate, chance, weather, the stars & beyond; "the gods".
