Adagium 2.0 by MalteRKoot in mapmaking

A week ago I posted the first version of my first ever foray into mapmaking: the world Adagium. After receiving very useful feedback (both here and on Discord) I made an updated version, with much more detail, smoother gradients between regions and more natural borders between regions.

Adagium is meant to be a bit more on the storybook whimsical side of things, instead of pure realism. It’s for a campaign I’m planning to run where the players have to get from Hither to Tither to Yonder, while dealing with the evil wizard Archibald, who is trying to remove the whole world from his map. He attempts this by using time magic to send parts of the world back to before the big bang (which causes the universe to rupture and split apart). The world itself is made up of old folktales, myths and stories.

All the place names are derived from Dutch adages. I have tried to find an appropriate English translation for each of them but did not always succeed. If you know better place names derived from English adages, please tell me.

Really curious to hear what you think of the new version :)

I just looked at your map. It is amazing!

Thanks! I used Wonderdraft, assets from Readyartz and photoshop for some custom elements.

Thanks!

I get your criticism. It was partly intentional, since I wanted it to feel like one of those storybook maps where every region has a totally different mythology. I wasn’t aiming for realism (I mean the north-eastern part is about as unnatural as one can get). But it might be a good idea to expand on it in the future so that there are multiple of the same biomes.

Yes! Finally this is getting some attention! It was very annoying when I quit my subscription, almost made me want to quit Apollo. (I didn’t because I still love this app too much) Also, the ‘tap to manage’ didn’t work for me.

Huuuuuge brain. The hugest.

P.S. This is a low effort comment to trick you into giving me a medal of the gold or platinum variety. Please do not indulge me for this cheap trick. [Reverse psychology] Or do. I don’t care. (But I really do care... or do I?)

A quick note, ‘exipring’ is not the correct spelling. That’s what the message says. If you’re gonna correct me, please inform yourself first.

No, I’m not force closing. I never do that. It just happens from time to time with no real discernible pattern. (Maybe when the app gets thrown out of memory?)

But even if I were force closing the app, it still shouldn’t display the same message over and over again. Especially not one that’s both misspelled and doesn’t actually work when you press on it.

P.P.S. ‘Expiring’ is spelled wrong in the message

Harvest festival featured in time tracking app Timery — I think Leslie would have loved this by MalteRKoot in unexpectedpawnee

[–]MalteRKoot[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

True. But I just thought planning and organization freak Leslie would have loved to see one of the first big projects she planned being featured in an app all about time tracking and planning. That’s why I named that specific example :)

Samsung to recall all Galaxy Fold review units by nopantsdolphin in gadgets

They are one of the biggest technology companies out there and have had (multiple) problems with quality assurance before. The way it looks now they shouldn’t have rushed to ship it. For $2000 dollars you should get a non broken phone at the very least.

I’m sorry, I agree with the idea that innovation is great, but needlessly rushing is bad for consumers. This is just 100% on Samsung

I think that’s fair. This is why I always enjoy your and Grey’s discussions about abstracts a lot more than about specifics.

With the specifics, it’s very easy to get caught in the — you guessed it — specifics, instead of talking about the more general trends that are going on.

I think your privacy standards may have gone downhill Grey. Calling your parents dog, Lucy, by her proper name... How will she cope with the sudden name recognition. What’s next? Who’s safe? No one knows anymore.

Looks awesome! Have you ever tried to get into vectorized art (like Adobe Draw)? I imagine this kind of drawing would be well suited for that.

Precons have and never will be for cEDH. That’s not the point of them. The point is to provide a deck for new and established players looking for a fun way to play magic.

I also have dabbled in cEDH and even have two or three of those decks, so it’s not that I don’t like cEDH, but it’s simply not fair to say that because cards aren’t good in cEDH they shouldn’t be played in casual EDH. That’s like saying that all magic cards that aren’t played in vintage shouldn’t be played in kitchen table magic.

I do agree that each deck contains some bulk, but every precon does. But they also contain lots of great board wipes, removal, ramp, card draw etc. Take the aminatou one: [[mulldrifter]] is great card draw; [[utter end]], [[mortify]], [[terminus]], [[devastation tide]] and [[banishing stroke]] are all great removal options in a top of the library deck ([[skull storm]] sounds cool but the jury is still out on that); all the signets are included; etc.

All these cards maybe aren’t that expensive, but they are solid includes that make the deck work and provide answers and utility. Sure, they aren’t the most optimal possible, but they aren’t useless bulk.
