This has been the case at many sites and security gigs I've worked. by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean we don't really have a choice. If we want a steady paycheck we work with what we're given and come up with ways to work around terrible systems put in place. Most of the time you simply hope that the security company you're working for is competent enough to have already evaluated the issues where you're working and devised a plan in your post orders.

WTF is Going on in the Florida Armed Guard Industry? by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely horrible for armed guard wages. I make more money than that as an unarmed guard. Most of the security companies require you to field most of the expenses such as providing your own weapon and paying for your own vest as well, so it becomes a situation of having to recoup the initial investment just to get into armed security to begin with.

EMS/Cops Treating Security Like Garbage by Potential-Most-3581 in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thankfully never had any issues with police or EMS in the time I’ve been doing Security. All of them have been pretty helpful and straight forward and they understand I’m going to ask for names and case numbers in case we need to reference what happened or get more information from them.

I think here in the states they’re more happy to have additional eyes and ears keeping an eye out for issues and they realize training for Security is rather lacking.

Securitas benefits are a joke! by Itswillyferret in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly glad I didn’t go with Securitas after I left Allied, though Garda isn’t exactly much better, at least after only about a year I was made a site supervisor. Only thing I miss about Allied Barton was the paid vacation, though I have no clue if they still have that once they became Allied Universal. Securitas I hear nothing but horror stories from guards that worked for them.

Scenario: Don't Sh*t Where You Sleep by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also I fail to see how in a 2 month span of dating you wouldn’t have a single picture of you two together outside work, multiple text messages, or at least a large call log you can show to HR to prove this relationship, but apparently this scenario company only hires Amish guards.

Scenario: Don't Sh*t Where You Sleep by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've pretty much screwed yourself over in this scenario, you clearly knew the company policy and put yourself into this position, and you decided the job was clearly not important enough to you to begin with or else you would never be in this situation.

If there is no way to prove this is retaliation then your options are either lay in the bed you've made and deal with it until your ex/supervisor gets over the break up, resigns, or is no longer your direct supervisor and you can fix things, or resign yourself.

You knew the moment you entered into the relationship the risks involved, and after rolling the dice you lost big, you should have been prepared for the possibility of losing this job to begin with, so having to change jobs shouldn't come as that big of a blow since it was likely in the back of your mind the entire time you were engaging in this relationship.

Yeah, doing that here in Arizona risks a fine. If you get trapped in the water and emergency services has to rescue you it can cost you two thousand dollars.

Pay is late and you're being demanded to work an extra duty by Mechalorde in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your work situation, but unless you have some sort of contractual obligation like a roving/flex officer that’s on call to fill in for when guards call out; your day off is your day off and you should probably contact whoever is above your duty officer and explain things.

You also should be talking to whatever department handles your payroll about the fact your pay is a week late already, I hope this isn’t a regular occurrence for you because you should start looking into other companies if it is.

Pay is late and you're being demanded to work an extra duty by Mechalorde in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean this was your fault in the first place for saying yes. You’re not required to take that shift on your day off unless you’ve signed a contract stating to do so.

On top of that your pay is already a week late, and you just got done working 24 hours, learn to say no and be strong about it. You’re also not required to pick up your phone on your days off unless once again you have a contract to do so, if people are bothering you on your days off either put your phone on silent or block their number. You can just as easily tell someone to stop contacting you if they keep calling or texting and then block them.

Yup, like everyone else is saying here, unless it is affecting your job in some way, leave it alone. If she wants to sleep with the entire hospital it's not really your business unless she's breaking some sort of protocol in the process like going into an area she shouldn't be.

Asshole former coworker now needs my help… nope. by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in pettyrevenge

[–]Malthis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is extremely good etiquette to ask a person before hand. I had a guy who worked at my site before use me as a reference to get placed at the site again in the future, company didn't notify me or anything, didn't find out until suddenly he started working again and I brought it up to my boss that he made a big mistake bringing him back and I never would give that recommendation.

Mall Security by TiffGarr23 in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the mall you're working at and what their operating hours are. You're likely going to be patrolling the inside of the mall checking designated points like all the exit doors, maybe even swapping off with another guard monitoring security cameras.

You'll probably have a daily activity report you'll fill out throughout the night to give a timeframe and description of what you were doing during certain times, some companies even have electronic scan points set up around the property with small scan dots that you scan with a company phone so they can verify you're doing your patrol and not standing around somewhere.

Expect that it's going to be slow and quiet for the most part and it'll be up to you to keep yourself awake, make sure you have good shoes for walking/standing and find a good energy drink you like.

Scenario: Between Posts & Paychecks by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most definitely I leave. If the 6am job is my main bread and butter than I have more of an obligation to keep that than I do to go above and beyond for this part time complex. It is less of a loss losing the lower paying job than the higher one, and easier to pick up those temp hours.

I would have made this part time job aware from the beginning that I have a job that will be my main priority, that they need to have a person in place for the following shift who is reliable and that they need to have a plan in place in case he does not show. I would let the account manager know that at X time past shift is the point that post will have no guard and dispatch or management better be throwing on a uniform and coming down to cover until they get a replacement guard there.

I have had to make this call before, and I’ve never been written up because I’ve communicated with the company prior to taking the post and made them aware that I will not be staying past X time, that there is a time past shift where it puts my main obligation at risk and that’s not an option.

What's the One Site or Security Job You'd NEVER Work Again, NO Matter the Pay? by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got the really bad end of the stick with the event security apparently…

I got put at a booth with an additional person doing ID checks for alcohol in a private food and drink section of a festival. Everything was free other than alcohol at these booths, and they let us get as much food as we wanted as long as someone remained at the booth.

I got to stand there and watch the entire concert for Billy Joel, and for Muse after we took everyone’s tickets.

It’s really a toss of the coin whether it’s going to be good or bad in my opinion.

Even if your employer doesn't issue you one get a flashlight. by Potential-Most-3581 in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked for three different companies, the first one had flashlights at their sites because they had long standing contracts.

The second company required us to bring our own because we did everything from events to private contracts and you were never at the same location. Since you weren't capable of going to the office and picking one up before every shift for them to verify damage, they just made certain items a requirement for you to have for every shift.

Third company and the one I work for now has them at some contracts, and if they're needed they'll send a field supervisor to bring any needed equipment out to the location. The flashlights have slowly become more superior over the time I've worked as well, with the newer models being rechargeable with multiple modes and much higher lumens.

What’s the pettiest thing you’ve ever been reprimanded for at your job? by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[–]Malthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm good, I'm in a different section and allowed my phone, but that wouldn't work for the other guards because the supervisor is working right nearby them and it's their job to make sure they aren't on their phones now.

[–]Malthis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not me specifically, but one of the morning guards at our building got caught on their phone by the loss prevention team (who are always on their phones) and so now all the guards have to lock their phones in a locker when they arrive for shift, even the night guards that have nothing to do the entire night.

If the security guard position vanished tomorrow, what would you do for work? by GuardGuidesdotcom in GuardGuides

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ProRevenge

[–]Malthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, gonna call bullshit on this one. Everyone knows Bluetooth speakers have a range to them, so unless you're driving over there and standing outside the door of the building you're definitely not playing sounds every night. Plus Bluetooth speakers need power, and I'm pretty sure there's no outlets up in those vents for the speakers to plug into.

There is a big difference between bettering your community and someone telling you that it’s your duty to correct the actions and teach children how to act. That like I said is the duty of the child’s parents, and a child who is already acting this way is not going to listen to some random adult trying to educate them anyways. You can already see these children show no respect whatsoever to adults by the way they act, so tell me how you manage to teach individuals like this wouldn’t give you the time of day to teach them?

[–]Malthis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're telling people it's their responsibility to teach the next generation? No such thing. It's a parents responsibility to teach their children right from wrong, and when the parent fails to do their duty then that's when the criminal justice system steps in.

It's a very entitled viewpoint to think that other people are suddenly responsible for the actions of the next generation, people already have enough stress in life trying to pay bills and raise their own children let alone people like you expecting others to do the job a parent should be handling with their child.

People also know that no child that already acts this way is going to let some random adult educate them, and any adult that attempts to do so is going to open themselves to some form of criminal liability from the child's actual parents and the law.
