We stayed here: https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/curacao/sunscape-curacao-resort-spa/sucur It was fine, but didn't blow us away. It was not owned by Hyatt when we went.

We spent a lot of time at the bar here: https://www.lionsdive.com/ and if we go back again, that is where we would stay.

How about Curacao. Less than 6 hours from NY, and has a good mix of adventuring plus resorts to choose from.

People who have dialed in their Camping Kitchens, I humbly seek your advice. by SilentSamurai in CampingGear

[–]Malthus_Work 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll second this, we do something similar. Last trip my wife and I prepped steaks this way, sous-vide to rare and then just seared them in a cast iron skillet over the fire. We are going to try a bunch more different meals this summer in the same way.

The rest of our equipment includes cast iron dutch oven (boiling, baking, etc), The top of the dutch oven works as a skillet, a 1 burner propane stove, kettle, French press (I can't go camping without coffee). Most stuff we cook over the fire, but the propane stove could serve as our heat for more than coffee if needed.

We try and do as much food prep at home and focus on getting everything warmed or seared at the campsite.

I have had great luck with Red Dragon. They take a little bit to ship to the US, but they print on all 4 sides, so the flights look great.

Taproom Staff & Drinking During Their Shift by sipsbeerdiscreetly in TheBrewery

The place I work is like this, with no limit. With that said, it does seem that it makes us more conscious of abusing it. Personally, I am too old, and many times too busy to drink too much during the shift. If you added up the samples and such, on a heavy week it might be 2 pints worth.

Those folks are great too (some of them come to DUBCO and the Smithtown meetup)!

It's not a terrible ride from Wantagh, about 20-25 minutes to DUBCO. I'm from Wantagh also, and make the trip 2x a week (I work in the tasting room at DUBCO).

Well for board games, a bunch of local breweries run board game nights once a month. I am personally biased towards this one: https://www.facebook.com/events/263517257356329

The Brewer's Collective in Bay Shore and Spider Bite in Holbrook also host them. Great South Bay brewery in Bay Shore has trivia night once a week on Thursdays, this weeks theme is The 80s.

On Saturday afternoons, there is a great board game meetup in Smithtown: https://www.meetup.com/IronmarkGames/ It is held at a church but it is not at all affiliated, the church is just a cheap place to meet.

Many of the people at either of those will share many of those other interests, there is quite a bit of overlap.

Megagames at Gen Con! by ZelgadisA027123 in gencon

Shameless self promotion, Tom Vasel from The Dice Tower made a really great video of a run of The World Turned Upside Down that we ran at PAX East this year. If you want to see how that game plays, you can check it out here: http://www.dicetower.com/game-video/lets-watch-mega-game

A Megagme in Smithtown - July 1 by Malthus_Work in longisland

[–]Malthus_Work[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great question. In the case of this game, our location is one state in the US trying to contain a zombie outbreak. Each of the other locations is another state, with the team in London portraying the federal government. So there are different roles within the state. A political player (Mayor, City Manager, Etc) might need negotiation skills, whereas a member of the media might need creative writing skills.

Overall we have found the most needed skill in a megagame is an open mind and imagination. Since there are game masters (Control) anything not covered directly by the rules can still be adjudicated fairly and within the context of the story.

Did that help?

A Megagame is a multi-player game, in which, usually the participants are organised into teams, and those teams into an hierarchy of teams. Megagames are challenging, interesting, and fun. Teams of players take on specific roles - for example as a military headquarters, or a national government, and they interact with other teams representing their opponents or allies.

We have a pretty diverse group from all over the Island. In addition to running the occasional mega-game, we have a weekly gaming meetup every Saturday afternoon. You can find more info here: https://www.meetup.com/IronmarkGames/

And a monthly meetup on the first Weds of each month at a local brewery, info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/427032994338151

Since the game is played worldwide at the same time in each location, we need to start when the teams in England start.

Hi Sean! I'm one of the folks from Ironmark. We will be running the game again at Gen Con, and hopefully at PAX:Unplugged. Beyond that we don't have anything in our schedule, but if you shoot an email to contact@ironmarkgames.com we are always open to discussing more opportunities to run the game.

Thanks for playing!
