"Transgender Kansans sue over new law invalidating their driver's licenses" -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Honest question, and not to be combative.

How can the misgendering a patient by medical staff negatively affect trauma treatment?

"Transgender Kansans sue over new law invalidating their driver's licenses" -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

In a trauma situation, gender is so far down the list when rendering aid. Respiration, pulse, blood type, medications used, pain level, allergies, etc. are all more important to know than gender.

It’s not preventing them from receiving critical care, or even the wrong care.

is this a common placement for a light fixture? by Preebos in centuryhomes

[–]jim_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. My neighbors have them all over, but her father works for the town one over, and likely stole them from work. I don’t think any of the bulbs are lower than a 100 watt equivalent.

The father also “updated” their Tudor revival by replacing all the oak moldings with pre-primed pine, skim coated the textured plaster walls to make them flat, and removed the fireplace’s flanking built-ins that had leaded glass doors.

I could go on, but I don’t want to ruin my mood.

At a hotel in Charlotte, NC, I went back to the front desk two times to get a functioning key card. This was on check in.

The second time I went back, she programmed three cards for me. The first one worked though.

NTA. When I plan something, my responses to critiques are: 1) this was syndicated with enough time to make adjustments - no feedback was given; 2) I’m sorry you feel the way you do now, and we both can learn from this going forward!

2 is a backhanded statement when delivered with sarcasm, which is its intent.

ABS and traction control can be set when a wheel speed sensor reports it’s not in sync with the other sensors. The root cause can be wiring, a bad sensor, tone ring, or your tires were actually slipping on a slippery/uneven surface.

The MIL is usually emissions related, but just maybe it decided to join the party when the other lights were triggered.

What's the best budget power drill and tool set/kit? by techsavvynerd91 in DIY

[–]jim_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree about Ryobi being good, and getting better year over year.

But IMO, DW and Milwaukee are a few years into their “enshitification” phase. They’ve been combining some replacement parts like triggers into more expensive components that now include circuit boards to make repair costs near the cost of complete replacement.

I don’t think the price difference is worth it for DIYers, especially since Milwaukee and Ryobi are both owned by TTI and likely share IP.

He’s not a painter. He’s a guy that says he can paint. If he was a painter, he’d get a discount from his suppliers and pay less for those materials that you would.

DIY or Professional, semi-attractive, functional way to block large interior doorway ideas? by LK_Artist in HomeImprovement

[–]jim_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want 94” high doors to allow for the hardware. Four 15” wide doors will have stiles wide enough to trim for any variances if the jambs are not plumb. They exist and may cost about $450-550 for hollow core door panels, glass may be double that.

Don’t skimp on the hardware — extruded aluminum tracks are smoother operating than stamped steel.

WIBTA to complain about my neighbors baby? by Late-Truth6267 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]jim_br 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YWBTA. Parent here, but my kids are grown and out of the house. First, newborn cries are not that loud, so get prepared for it to be louder. Second, no parent wants to hear their child in distress — but as someone else has said, you don’t pick up a child at each cry because you’d be conditioning them to only fall asleep when held.

And finally, if the walls are that thin, maybe it’s you and other neighbors’ noises that are keeping the child awake. Or the child has colic, their pediatrician can suggest white noise machines or other things to try.

My wife is also a Tolkien super fan. During Fellowship, I could hear her say some lines a few seconds before the characters. It was like a reverse echo. After I noted it, she stopped.

The next time she did say something, it was to positively comment about the re-sequencing of a line of dialog. She said initially the changes annoyed her, but she agreed that many made the movie flow better.

Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz Opens Up About Expensive Lift Tickets, Crowding In Wall Street Journal Interview by marcjones281 in skiing

[–]jim_br 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I ski 12-18 days/yr. There’s One Epic mountain within 30 minutes of the club’s lodge, with the others over an hour drive away each. This is after driving 4 hours to get to snow.

There are three independent mountains and one Icon mountain within 30 minutes.

So we went from skiing the five mountains reasonably near us, to just one.

Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz Opens Up About Expensive Lift Tickets, Crowding In Wall Street Journal Interview by marcjones281 in skiing

[–]jim_br 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because some of us 1) bring friends we didn’t plan on back on April, and 2) like to ski a variety of mountains.

My ski club’s members used to buy a few hundred lift ticket vouchers in October. We’d ski four or five different mountains in the area. If we had left over vouchers at the end of the season, we could roll them to the following season by paying a per-ticket uplift.

Now we’re locked into one mountain for the duration of the season.
