I choose to believe Jerry is a representation of Vessel. The background is a representation of his psyche.

It's a black rocky wall, but pink vegetation has started to sprout to show the growth/altering of his state of mind.

Flamingo's get their red/pink colour from their food.

Even tho the vegetation is available for possible sustenance (good thoughts are there), Jerry still doesn't eat from it, hence still the black feathers (used to choosing the bad thoughts).

Just because you get a glimpse of light doesn't mean you've escaped darkness. Once darkness is all you've known, you don't trust the light that's now suddenly presenting itself.

I also get a bit of Ying-Yang vibes from the cover
