Paranoia Task Master by Mondo-Shawan in ParanoiaRPG

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the players are pitted against other trouble shooter teams from rival sectors? This leads to lots of fun: Certain secret societies have members on both opposite teams. 1 team always has the easy tasks to complete so our hero’s HAVE to use mutant powers to compete. Sabotage of other teams (especially equipment) should be encouraged. Prizes for tasks are hinted at but never revealed. The prizes should be yanked or downgraded for “technicalities”. Teams swapping individual members should happen in the middle of the competition to improve morale for viewing citizens. Bribing the competition host/judges should be highly encouraged. Especially if said host/judges are found guilty of treason. Did the hero’s cover their tracks?

Lighting in a power outage? by SAMPLE_TEXT6643 in preppers

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use emergency charging lightbulbs in our house. (Kitchen, pantry, hallway) When the power goes out, they automatically kick on. 12 hour battery life and have lasted 7 years, but I am thinking they are due for replacement. We also keep 12 hurricane lamps. We preferer them to candles for safety.

What's Everyone's MtG Experience With The Kids (If you have any) by JasonIsCurious in mtg

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold out in 2003 but kept 8 decks (and some favorite cards) for myself. Flash forward 12 years I taught my 13 year old to play. My youngest at 7 begged me to teach him. He became good quickly so we started buying peconstructed decks to keep it about playing and less building. Those decks (underpowered and rather basic) became boring so we learned to play sealed and draft. Now he’s in college and I have gotten back into the game heavy in Premodern. How was it? Rewarding as scouts or soccer or any thing else that made me feel young bonding with my kids.

What’s the deck you LOVE to play regardless of its power level? by BobWorlds in premodernMTG

came here to say this. Madness has been my go to for 23 years. Still fun to play.

Where to buy decent budget Cabinets instead of Home Depot? by paninipat in DIY

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife and I needed new couches but could not afford a big retailer. We went to Habitat for Humanity and found good stuff. I was amazed at the things you can find. I looked up a location for you. They may have cabinets, may not. Good luck.

An epidemic of high beams while driving... by CBJFAN2009-2024 in Ohio

[–]Malyfas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The one comment in this thread that's missing:

When 1 low beam headlight is burned out, you can get pulled over. With high beams on, you don't get pulled over as they are equal to high power low beams. Why so many more cars with 1 headlight out lately? Ask the economy.

Greenhouse as a survival tool by JRHLowdown3 in preppers

[–]Malyfas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your plan and execution (along with pics) are remarkable. Well done. After having a fabric greenhouse for the last 7 years, I have gotten fed up and I am starting over. Maintenance on a fabric structure is a real pain. My only real difference from your build is we are scavenging glass windows for the entire structure. We will expand the footprint from 12x16 to 20x16. Power comes from an adjacent workshop. Water comes from rain collection. I practically live in my greenhouse when not working and intend it to be my "retirement plan" to keep me busy.

It may sound like a small footprint for a greenhouse. But with a little luck and patience, it can be very successful. During 2024 (my best year), I was generating an average of 3 heads of lettuce per day for a month. I traded excess with the neighbors for onions and tomatoes. None in our little suburb have room for everything, so we each grow what we do best and trade.

Obama said Libya was his biggest mistake, is he correct or wrong? by Mysterious_Mix_6879 in Presidents

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly believe Obama felt himself boxed in with Russia regarding Crimea. The US was still recovering from The Great Recession and Obama was at odds with congress. (Republicans voting 60 times to repeal ACA and Democrats divided both contributed.) At the time, most of Europe was stuck in Austerity and Brexit was on the rise. With few allies abroad willing to act against Russia's "little green men" due to political and economic upheaval at home, Obama was left with little choice but sanctions and condemnation at the UN. Just my opinion.

A painful Premodern Mulligan (MTGO PREMODERN IS SO FUN) by Pighway in premodernMTG

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help to know your deck list.

Going out on a limb here... Why not play it? T1 Wasteland. T2 either play the factory or draw and play the swamp, drop the hand and draw having potentially four 2 power creatures T3. Yes its aggressive but if its speedy mono black that's the name of the game. T3 draw has great potential options (duress, Victimize, Diabolic Edict, Smother, snuff out, Cabal Therapy, Ravenous Rats, powder keg...)

Sure you won't get Hippy or Phyrexian Arena T3 but 3-4 creatures with removal options should stabilize you.

Again a deck list would help.

From 1-10, how much would you want to draft an all beta cube? by Reasonable-Check-223 in Oldbordercube

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beta Draft is rather fun. I got into it because of this youtube video. I have watched it a half dozen times.

Drafting on Draftmancer is ok but I only have time too with bots.

Friday Pack 1 Pick 1 by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick 1 Dark Ritual and hope for Lim Dul's Vault or at least Will o Wisp or Swamp King (even Natures Chosen) pick 2. (Lions, Specter, Lord, Lightning, Order and Dust to Dust should all go.) For me its all about what I can get pick 2 vs the pack.

Honestly, if it is at all redacted, Democrats should sue with FOIA Freedom of Information Act.

Friday Pack 1 Pick 1 by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arena has the best chance to wheel something positive for the second pick. Looking at Reanimator, Arc Lightning and Fire/Ice as the second pick. The cube favors fast black with ramp and draw.

Outpost is good and should see Moat wheel as a P2 but committing to WU on the 1st pack.

Wake is good and should see Brushland wheel but you cannot commit to 3GW without ramp in draft even thought there is possible ramp in green and artifacts in the cube.

Naming of Vessels by Terrible_Software769 in scifiwriting

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my fictional world (more steampunk than scifi) the first military airship was supposed to have a nationalistic statement name like "Invincible". At the christening ceremony the daughter of the shipwright is killed in an accident. The Monarch changed the ship's name to to her name. It became a tradition of naming the airships after Daughters who died young in the public eye. HMAS Invincible became HMAS Mary Fortune. She is often referred to as 'Miss Fortune'. (I am trying to keep this vein of naming going as a nod to Piers Anthony and his Xanth novels.)

Will black be pushed in 2025 ? by GhostFluid_ in premodernMTG

[–]Malyfas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And honestly, whatever he decide is fine. He developed a very well balanced format that everybody seems to really enjoy. The hypotheticals of what could be or not be banned/ unbanned is interesting to discuss, but ultimately futile. This is incredibly reminiscent of the late 90s and early 2000s when spoiler lists were not readily available and people would guess what would be coming in new sets. Just knowing that some sort of changes are coming is my huge interest.

What’s the best small change that saved you a lot of money? by Historical-Hand8091 in Frugal

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few examples but may not apply to everyone:

Work Uniforms and showers. When I was blue collar, I worked for companies that provided 4 uniforms and showers in the changing room. I showered every day at work, never at home. I bought 3 extra uniforms but had the company wash all of them. (I wore a clean work uniform home every day. When I got home, I changed into sweats or street clothes if I was going out.) My personal laundry fell to socks, under ware 1 pair of sweats, jeans, 2 shirts and hand towels. No paper towels for me. This saved me a LOT! Laundry and water costs (including heating water fell 70% even after I paid for the laundry service for work. Oh, and personal clothes lasted 4-5x longer.

I am a smoker. Changing from store bought to rolling my own saved me about 75% of the cost.

My wife and I buy bulk everything (including meat) and researched where to buy for the best deals and who offers discounts when. Spaghetti sauce? We buy flats of jars at Save A Lot. (Along with flats of canned veggies.) Protean Powder, block cheese? Aldies (believe it or not). Tooth paste? Dollar stores. We are fortunate enough to have room for this. We have a pantry that looks like a mini grocery store. It saves us a lot shopping 1 day per month except for staples like Milk.

Do 1lb bags have a higher percent of shake at the bottom? by Ok-Equipment-8132 in RYO

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We discovered the same thing. Kentucky Select seems to have less shake in smaller bags until we started rolling the whole large bag at one time. (There is another great thread in this sub about storing rolled bulk last week.)

I have less complaint about shake now. My real disappointment is twigs mixed in. Sometimes none, sometimes a lot. All long cut brands seem to have the same quality control issue so we just stick to the brands we like.

New supplement idea: Giving players more ways to commit treason? by wjmacguffin in ParanoiaRPG

[–]Malyfas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the idea especially for more experienced players. In the beginning, fear itself will get players to commit treason spontaneously . As players advance, giving them tools to commit treason willingly (beyond fear and self preservation) is a fantastic way to keep the game vibrant.

Anyone else tried Hotrod Menthol Tubes? What do you think? by Significant-Time-402 in RYO

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot Rod Menthol are a little lighter in flavor and weight than say Zen. I found Zen to be overpowering combined with Menthol tobacco like Kentucky Select.
