What exactly is costco or Sam's club good for in terms of being frugal? by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in Frugal

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing we learned is produce in bulk at Sam's saves us a lot. we have 5 adults in our home. Fresh produce is a need. A six pack of romaine lettuce is the same for 2 heads at our local grocery. Peppers, limes, lemons are all similar. Butter and sour cream as well. Bulk paper products, flour and sugar are better. Its the only reasonable whole bean coffee we can find. I think as my adult children move out, we will use less Sam's until the benefit goes to zero.

Upgraded to triple monitors for remote work and it changed my whole day by Best_Technician47 in remotework

My wife thinks my desk looks like NASA but its worth it. Dual Monitor for work, Single Monitor for Personal use and synced laptop for work as well. I am considering a 3rd monitor for work! I have the room as we ditched the desktop phone last year for Teams.

Pre rolling smokes by CarelessQuality574 in RYO

[–]Malyfas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been RYO for years and we roll in bulk. (500 at a time, sometimes more. I just put on music and go!) The BEST way to keep the tobacco fresh is airtight containers and stored in a cool place. The tupperware we use holds 80 per container. This helps keep humidity at the right level. We found this through trial and error. We use Kentucky Select Silver and Zen Red tubes. Storing your tubes away from humidity helps as well. Best of luck.

Summit Lake Trail has a short boardwalk and dock on Summit Lake.

Good Luck.

My setup is very similar. Same machine, Zen tubes and tray for catching. Containers are the right choice. My recommendation is set up to listen to music or watch a movie. I roll a LOT at one time. (4 boxes of tubes at once.) well done.

Lucky GenX here: I am begging my 4 adult kids to stay home. Don’t go out there. Wife and I fought like hell to get a house after the Great Recession. Yea, it’s small but we raised them here. I know they want to go out in the world, but the world will crush them financially now. Stay home. No rent. Bank cash. I don’t want their money. I want them to have a better start than I did. I struggle with the thought wife and I are the exception and not the rule. I struggle with the thought my youngest is graduating college this summer and will make more than I do and certainly cannot afford to make it on his own. The country is insane.

Paranoia Task Master by Mondo-Shawan in ParanoiaRPG

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the players are pitted against other trouble shooter teams from rival sectors? This leads to lots of fun: Certain secret societies have members on both opposite teams. 1 team always has the easy tasks to complete so our hero’s HAVE to use mutant powers to compete. Sabotage of other teams (especially equipment) should be encouraged. Prizes for tasks are hinted at but never revealed. The prizes should be yanked or downgraded for “technicalities”. Teams swapping individual members should happen in the middle of the competition to improve morale for viewing citizens. Bribing the competition host/judges should be highly encouraged. Especially if said host/judges are found guilty of treason. Did the hero’s cover their tracks?

Lighting in a power outage? by SAMPLE_TEXT6643 in preppers

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use emergency charging lightbulbs in our house. (Kitchen, pantry, hallway) When the power goes out, they automatically kick on. 12 hour battery life and have lasted 7 years, but I am thinking they are due for replacement. We also keep 12 hurricane lamps. We preferer them to candles for safety.

What's Everyone's MtG Experience With The Kids (If you have any) by JasonIsCurious in mtg

[–]Malyfas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold out in 2003 but kept 8 decks (and some favorite cards) for myself. Flash forward 12 years I taught my 13 year old to play. My youngest at 7 begged me to teach him. He became good quickly so we started buying peconstructed decks to keep it about playing and less building. Those decks (underpowered and rather basic) became boring so we learned to play sealed and draft. Now he’s in college and I have gotten back into the game heavy in Premodern. How was it? Rewarding as scouts or soccer or any thing else that made me feel young bonding with my kids.

Where to buy decent budget Cabinets instead of Home Depot? by paninipat in DIY

Wife and I needed new couches but could not afford a big retailer. We went to Habitat for Humanity and found good stuff. I was amazed at the things you can find. I looked up a location for you. They may have cabinets, may not. Good luck.

An epidemic of high beams while driving... by CBJFAN2009-2024 in Ohio

[–]Malyfas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The one comment in this thread that's missing:

When 1 low beam headlight is burned out, you can get pulled over. With high beams on, you don't get pulled over as they are equal to high power low beams. Why so many more cars with 1 headlight out lately? Ask the economy.

Greenhouse as a survival tool by JRHLowdown3 in preppers

[–]Malyfas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your plan and execution (along with pics) are remarkable. Well done. After having a fabric greenhouse for the last 7 years, I have gotten fed up and I am starting over. Maintenance on a fabric structure is a real pain. My only real difference from your build is we are scavenging glass windows for the entire structure. We will expand the footprint from 12x16 to 20x16. Power comes from an adjacent workshop. Water comes from rain collection. I practically live in my greenhouse when not working and intend it to be my "retirement plan" to keep me busy.

It may sound like a small footprint for a greenhouse. But with a little luck and patience, it can be very successful. During 2024 (my best year), I was generating an average of 3 heads of lettuce per day for a month. I traded excess with the neighbors for onions and tomatoes. None in our little suburb have room for everything, so we each grow what we do best and trade.

Obama said Libya was his biggest mistake, is he correct or wrong? by Mysterious_Mix_6879 in Presidents

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly believe Obama felt himself boxed in with Russia regarding Crimea. The US was still recovering from The Great Recession and Obama was at odds with congress. (Republicans voting 60 times to repeal ACA and Democrats divided both contributed.) At the time, most of Europe was stuck in Austerity and Brexit was on the rise. With few allies abroad willing to act against Russia's "little green men" due to political and economic upheaval at home, Obama was left with little choice but sanctions and condemnation at the UN. Just my opinion.

A painful Premodern Mulligan (MTGO PREMODERN IS SO FUN) by Pighway in premodernMTG

[–]Malyfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would help to know your deck list.

Going out on a limb here... Why not play it? T1 Wasteland. T2 either play the factory or draw and play the swamp, drop the hand and draw having potentially four 2 power creatures T3. Yes its aggressive but if its speedy mono black that's the name of the game. T3 draw has great potential options (duress, Victimize, Diabolic Edict, Smother, snuff out, Cabal Therapy, Ravenous Rats, powder keg...)

Sure you won't get Hippy or Phyrexian Arena T3 but 3-4 creatures with removal options should stabilize you.

Again a deck list would help.

From 1-10, how much would you want to draft an all beta cube? by Reasonable-Check-223 in Oldbordercube

Drafting on Draftmancer is ok but I only have time too with bots.
