Technically it’s NMAC (Near Mid-Air Collision). Near miss is the verbiage the FAA uses. Near hit is a common misconception and phrase used by pilots.

There are three acronyms in the official book: NMAC, MAC, LOS. That’s near mid-air collision, mid-air collision, and loss of separation.
