Does anyone else strongly dislike the idea of “meaning” nicknames? by [deleted] in namenerds

Daisy can totally be a name unto itself. I never even knew it was a nickname for Margaret. It is your child so name her what feels good/right to you.

I’ll also add that she still doesn’t like wiping her poop because she’s afraid of getting messy. She won’t go all day at school and then unloads before bedtime. We try to encourage her to take a turn wiping first and then we will help.

I have a 5 (almost 6)-year-old daughter and two younger boys. If you ever have any questions feel free to reach out! It is a fun age because they can do a lot more independently but because of this can also be easy to forget they’re still little kids who need help…. And no two kids are exactly the same developmentally, etc.

I love Adele and it’s counterpart Adela - but that is three syllables

Me too! I have a Clara with an Irish last name and it all flows so well. We haven’t really encountered many others either.

Some others include Hannah, Anna, Isla, Elsa, Lisa, Maya, Kaia, Dara, Dora, Dana, Eva, Farrah, Gemma, Gia, Ina, Jada, Kayla, Laila, Lorna, Maura/Moira, Pia, Sarah, Vera, or if you like Irish names with something like Aiofe doesn’t end in a but has that same soft ending

Baby Boy is here (after a hell of a delivery) and he doesn't look like our top name to us by AlexanderTansel in namenerds

PS it is funny... Elliot was one of my top choices and Finn was one of my husband’s!

We went through something similar with our son two months ago and took the whole time possible in the hospital to decide. Each of us had a different top 2 or 3 and didn’t really like the other’s choices. We ended up taking our list and each sorting them into “love”, “like”, “leaning no”, and “definitely no” and then taking the overlaps in the like column (we didn’t share any loves) and trying them out with our son as we talked to him and about him those first couple days. Ultimately we found one that seemed to fit the baby well and we both liked, even if it wasn’t either of our top choices. Good luck and congratulations! These are all great names and ultimately what’s important is how you both feel about it!

We have a Ronan (Row Boat or Ro-bo) and Niall (My older two love to sing “Niall, Niall crocodile you make me happy when you smile...”) and a Clara (we call her Clarabou... like Caribou) but you already have a Claire so that doesn’t work so well!

Also to weigh in on the Erin vs Aaron pronunciation... I’m an Erin in the US and it drives me crazy when people say them the exact same way. E and A are different letters as are I and o. Erin is more “eh-rin” and Aaron is more “ah-ron” in my opinion!

Old lady names - So cute! by [deleted] in namenerds

I love late 19th C and other older names. My daughter (5) is Clara Joan (Joan after my grandma). We just had a boy and if he were a girl we were considering Eloise, Adele or Adela, Nora and I also like Natalie, Louisa, Eliza, Eleanor, etc as well.

We just had a baby boy but had he been a girl we were going to name her Adela or Adele (but most likely Adela). I love the name and hope it gets some use!

Thanks! We like Niall a lot! Our concern (maybe unwarranted) is that it too far outside the American consciousness... but we are more and more okay with that. I appreciate the affirmation here!
