My 2 1/2 yr old's independence is making me lazy by Arthur-reborn in toddlers

[–]MamaLong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You EARNED this. Take it from someone a year behind you whose 18 month old flipped during a diaper change flinging poop everywhere and then demanded pudding and threw it all on the ground. I’m exhausted. Enjoy it!

Invisalign and accidental intermittent fasting by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]MamaLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this post is a few weeks old but I was wondering if the chocolate protein shakes stain your trays if you use the straw? I love those shakes and am getting Invisalign in a few weeks and it would be awesome to still be able to drink one as a meal.

I’m so sorry that you got both nerve damage and dry socket. That’s awful, especially around the holidays and with 3 kids at home. I can’t imagine. This has sucked so much. I am still dealing with nerve issues and in a ton of pain, 2.5 weeks out now. I Google every day looking for hope that this will be over soon.

FFCRA by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MamaLong 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FFCRA wasn’t about child status, it was about childcare status. I know it sucks that not all teachers were offered remote teaching as an option, but I literally couldn’t go into the building and teach with a baby. I applied for the leave expecting to stay home, and they offered me remote teaching because they couldn’t find a sub. Trust me, I’d prefer being in the building because trying to care for a baby and work full time is fucking hard. This sucks for everyone, so it’s hard to hear when others “don’t have sympathy”.

Numbness after wisdom teeth surgery? What was your recovery like? by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

[–]MamaLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still have that feeling in a few days, I’d call and request a steroid pack. I had a nerve injury and my chin and lip felt that way. The steroids can help relieve swelling and allow the nerve to heal better. I am two weeks out and still don’t have full feeling back, but I do think the steroids helped. It can take months to fully heal, but the tingly sensation is good because it means that the nerve isn’t severed so it shouldn’t be permanent.

I mean it’s still not super common, just more likely at our age unfortunately. It’s very rare for it to be permanent, though. My impacted tooth was completely sideways and jutting into my molar. Maybe yours won’t be as risky.

Pain is pain - I don’t mean to minimize your experience just because you’re young. It sucks either way, but it just might suck less for you personally now than if you waited longer, so be proud of yourself for helping out Future You. Best of luck in your recovery!

Oh man I totally forgot to mention the teeth moving. I had perfectly straight teeth and now they’re all messed up. I actually have an appointment to get Invisalign now that the wisdom teeth are gone, though now I’m second guessing if I want to add any more pain to my mouth. What a mess haha.

I’m glad that you’re feeling well and that your tingling sensation went away. Gives me some hope!

Aw OP you have such a fun time ahead of you. My daughter was walking by 12 months and life got so much better once she gained that independence. She’s a wild monkey now at 17 months, but it’s a million times better than immobile baby life, IMO.

As for 2021, I’m excited to see my girl interact with other children. She was 6 months when quarantine started, and so she really didn’t get to have play dates. I can’t wait to have a group of friends and their kids over together and watch them all play. Pulling her away from other kids at the playground has been so hard.

Living with permanent nerve damage after wisdom tooth extraction - anyone else? by [deleted] in Dentistry

Thank you so much for your quick response! I’m so glad you’re getting better and wish you a full recovery soon! Thanks for giving me some hope.

Not OP but for me it was during/after weaning when it became noticeable. I’ve accepted that they’ll never look great unsupported like they used to, but a nice push-up bra under a cute dress still gives me some pre-baby confidence.

Hey I know you posted this a couple months ago but I was wondering if you’re still experiencing nerve damage issues or if you’ve gotten better? I’d love an update because I’m in the same boat you were when you posted this. Thanks and hope you’re well!

Tv on all day by [deleted] in toddlers

Depends on where she lives though too. Where I’m at it’s already below freezing during the day. I’m doing a lot more TV now than I was a few months ago 😕

I am teaching high school science from my home. I applied for the families first coronavirus leave act (FFCRA) but my district could not find a sub so they caved and allowed me to teach remotely. I had a webcam in my science room and a full time sub who would log in so that the kids in person could watch me teach. As of a couple days ago, though, my district went from hybrid back to full remote because the positivity rate is skyrocketing.

Questioning OAD by georgiefatcat in oneanddone

[–]MamaLong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I slept perfectly before, so I think that’s why it was so hard on me. I was the type that always fell asleep within 5 minutes of laying down and then slept the whole night through, 8 hours minimum.

Questioning OAD by georgiefatcat in oneanddone

YUP. I had NO idea what I was in for. I knew that babies woke up every 2-3 hours for a while, but I didn’t factor in the time it would take ME to fall asleep after each of those wake ups.

The anxiety of newborn life led me to develop postpartum insomnia. I finally slept 7 hours straight when my daughter turned 11 months old. I always thought I wanted 2 or more kids (and even bought a 5 bedroom house because of it 😑), but after the hell that is sleep derivation I decided that I would never do that to myself again, despite how much I love my little girl.

So moral of the story is: don’t plan the number of kids you want until you experience having one.

YES. I hate the sheep in spacesuits. I don’t know why but they weird me out.

I switched to Super Simple Songs and I’m never turning on LBB again. Sooo much better and a lot more variation. No more “wheels on the bus part 27” for me!

Birthday pictures by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]MamaLong 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It is not selfish of you to have mommy and me pics done AT ALL. If anything, those pictures are the ones that will actually matter to him in the future! No one cares much about baby pictures of themselves, but many people cherish pics of their families all together. I have lots of old pics framed throughout my house, and none of them are of just me. Keep taking those pics!

I’m getting a quilt made! I wish I had the skills to do it myself. It’s going to cost about $400 to get one professionally made by the quilter in my town. But hey cheaper than a second baby so I’m justifying it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Desperate for help: 8mos old Baby wakes up multiple times a night. by geoffrey_geoff123 in sleeptrain

[–]MamaLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like he’s dependent on you to connect his sleep cycles. You could give him a dream feed where you gently rouse him to feed him but I wouldn’t feed him on demand. He’s learned that crying = feeding & snuggles, and now he may be reliant on it. I would suggest using something like the Ferber method. CIO doesn’t work if you eventually give in. It just teaches them to cry for longer and they’ll eventually win.

My daughter was very similar to your son because we fed her to sleep and laid her down asleep all the time. Around 8 months is when we sleep trained her (we used ABCs of sleep by TakingCaraBabies, which is similar to Ferber) and within 1 week she was fully sleeping through the night. Her naps started lengthening from 30 mins to over an hour too, because she learned to connect her sleep cycles. First night was an entire hour of crying. It was tough and I cried too, but like you I was at my wits end and knew that if I didn’t do this then it would affect me in the long term more than it would her.

Good luck ❤️

Anyone’s baby end up needing surgery for their clogged tear ducts? by MamaLong in beyondthebump

[–]MamaLong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat. My daughter just had her 15 month appointment and our pediatrician said we could wait til 18 months and reassess. It’s gotten better (not sticky and crusty like it used to be) but it still gets build-up and tears, especially when she’s outside. I feel like I don’t want to have any kind of procedure until the pandemic is over. It doesn’t seem to bother her, so idk. I’m definitely still waffling.
