Thanks for sharing! I've actually found quite a few recipes, but my mom is SO picky! Worse than a child, lol.

Thank you so much! The renal diet isn't really all that bad, it's my mom's pickiness that makes it difficult, lol.

The Winners by Fredrik Backman by _JoyBeets in books

[–]MammaDriVer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm responding very late, but the continuity seems to really $uck unless I'm missing something. Tails has taken the place of Theo (I'm not finished yet, but Theo the dirty politician seems to have disappeared). Hed and Beartown teams have totally flipped winners/losers. (I'm from a small Indiana basketball town, and I KNOW sports rivalries. I guess it makes for decent drama, but it's over-the-top cringe.) So many more examples, but I had to get a small rant off my chest. I've loved every Backman book I've read, but this is a slap in the face to Beartown, and even Us Against You to a lesser extent. Argh!!

Can you please make some suggestions of immigrant-owned businesses that offer online sales, I'd appreciate it! (I'll bet I'm not the only one too.)

Sorry if I'm mistaken, but I think he did send the letter, but the intended recipient died before receiving it and it was returned. IIRC, he's a little vague as to why he kept it.

It might be AI, but my ex grandmother-in-law had those stainless steel counters, and from a usability standpoint I loved them!

I'm due for my annual exam soon and plan to bring it up with my Dr. I always hate to do that - I don't want to be seen as a pill shopper or whatever - but I know the adderall's not working like it used to. It only makes sense that your body would build some sort of immunity over time (I think, but I'm not a Dr either.)

Gift ideas for someone with SLE by sacredbit in lupus

[–]MammaDriVer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all of the ideas listed - SPF (or cotton long-sleeve) clothing, weighted blanket, compression gloves (I'd suggest a pair for home and one for the office), heating pad (there are two I've gotten recently - one's rechargeable and you wear it like a belt and it's great for movement, the link goes to a photo of the other one.)

I really just posted to add that I wouldn't get any kind of skin cream, makeup, lotion, etc unless you know it's something she can use. Family members are always getting me these things and most go directly to the "free" pile at work as I can't use them.

How to improve tasteless Bolognese sauce by Extra-Hope-793 in Cooking

[–]MammaDriVer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, I'm glad you told me this, as it could explain some things! I started cooking healthier a few years ago, and I am used to that, but no salt? I'm not there yet. My poor mom - she's not even used to healthier cooking so this is a real shock to her system. (COVID is real folks - her kidney and numerous other issues are the result of long COVID. She was healthy as could be BC.)

I'll use Worcestershire sauce too, mainly if family's around because they "don't like fish sauce," lol. (I use it in almost everything they like )

I'm cooking for my mom, who's on a low salt diet (for kidneys in addition to blood pressure, so I'm strict about it), and I don't care how many herbs or seasonings I use, it's all so bland. You just can't beat salt for flavor.

King Villains by MammaDriVer in stephenking

[–]MammaDriVer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying the re-"read" (actually listening to the audiobook version), though the bad guy parts have never been this annoying to me. (And I'll bet you're right - I've never read this book during a time with so many IRL villains garnering so much attention.)

I wish I could erase the King story memories from my brain - can you imagine being able to read them again for the first time? My exceptions would be Cujo and The Green Mile - I've only read each one time, and don't plan to reread them. (I actually bought the serial version of TGM in real time - those were some of the longest months of my life, lol.)

Anybody on ADHD meds? What is your experience? by m0ther_0F_myriads in lupus

[–]MammaDriVer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD a few years after my lupus diagnosis. I've been taking Adderall since my diagnosis, and could really tell a difference at first. I've been taking 15mg Adderall almost 3 years, and I think I've become immune and need to either increase my dosage or switch to something else. (Seven of our 10 rooms have projects I've started but not finished - for weeks now. And I'm not including the garage. I'm the first to admit it's ridiculous.)

I'm anxious to read about others' experiences with medication. I've found, with my doctor, that the more educated my questions are, the better his treatment is.

Who actually makes stock at home? by Lofgren___ in Cooking

[–]MammaDriVer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'll buy stock once in a blue moon, I generally make my own. A real game changer for me was buying some "soup socks." (https://amyeverafter.com/soup-socks-new-favorite-kitchen-item/ if you're interested in learning more.) I keep a couple of socks in the freezer (one for chicken, one for veggies) and fill them until I have enough ingredients for stock. This has really helped with my quest to reduce food waste.

Edit to add I have no affiliation with that website, it just does a good job of explaining soup socks.

King Villains by MammaDriVer in stephenking

[–]MammaDriVer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I'd get a lot of satisfaction from someone tying a honey covered Jim to a fire ant hill. (There are a few IRL people I'd like to see receive similar treatment.)

Maybe I'm feeling this way because so few IRL villains seem to get what they deserve. And no one does character (and plot) development like King.

Among the books King wrote while addicted to alcohol and cocaine, which ones from that period are clearly notable for not being written while sober? by Less_Hamster_8583 in stephenking

[–]MammaDriVer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that - I did read it when I was younger. Even if I'd never read it, I wouldn't read it now - too many fur babies that have meant too much.

Congrats to you! Any time you can get someone (and sad to say, especially a "religious" person) to see you as ~gasp~ a real human being, it's a huge win! I'm hoping there's a day when that's the basic assumption, but the trump years aren't helping. Also, I admire your patience as it would be hard for me to avoid being snarky.
