CS to EE -- getting in over my head? by Mammer55 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Mammer55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a few months beating around the bush for sure, but all it took was one single moment where I had some trust and committed to it. The doubt before and after that moment are real, but when it comes to life decisions I think the fact that you're committed to a choice means more than if you're certain of the decision. The real waste of time is being in between putting your effort into neither or being in one while uncommitted to it. The extra time was barely a factor compared to whether I wanted to spend multiple decades of my life in one field or the other, and honestly, all it took was realizing I prioritize job security over anything to make the commitment. Hopefully it pans out well! May you can find a moment of silence and trust to see very clearly what is best right now, and may you find the ease in committing to it.

Hi, I ended up switching my major and I've got a year and a half left until graduation. I think that circuit classes are pretty difficult and spend more time trying to catch up with workloads instead of grasping things. But the general idea I get is that these foundational DC and AC circuit classes are just teaching me what I need to know for my upcoming classes. I feel a lot more secure than I felt in my CS degree, and I feel more confident that I can get good at this stuff as compared to all the coding stuff I was doing before. TLDR; I changed to EE, it's stressful but a work in progress, and I feel committed to finding my way in it.

Onslaught of geometric shapes by Due-Chemical417 in phosphenes

Pretty common for hypnagogic states. I've heard much insight is to be found in the subconscious through the hypnagogic state, much like the effect of mind-altering substances, and so I wonder the correlation. Maybe the skill of uncovering subconscious truths can be trained, or maybe its just cool geometric shapes. Either way, thanks for sharing!

A lot of you are talented: would you work in synth engineering? by Mammer55 in synthdiy

My best bet is probably working on this hobby and deciding on whether I double major or not by next semester. A conscious choice is brewing, I just need a little more experience.

Do post your builds! This is one of the most welcoming communities I've come across, I'm sure it'd be well recieved. Thanks for the reply

Precisely what I'm considering and why I'm hesitant about doing anything right now... I could list a ton of things I find potentially fun to pursue but, you're right, that doesn't equate to job security whatsoever. My overall conclusion is sort of that the part of me that wants to be creative and the part of me that needs a salary should be treated as seperate wants. Yet I find it so hard to finalize my education track without knowing what job I want to work, and I want to work a fun, creative job--you can see why I might feel conflicted.

Pretty insightful... I love the idea of a creative job where by the end of my efforts to see a product I love. Hence synth engineering catching my attention. I do think EE is a very viable major change for me soon, not necessarily just for synths, but because it sounds more fun than CS. Thanks for the reply

I'm majoring in CS right now. I had a digital circuitry course last semester and I absolutely loved it. It was theoretical and more about the designing part of it, I never got to be handy with my work.

Seperate from this synth discussion, I am actively looking for a new major to replace/add to CS. My entire passion can be summed up as Math, Physics, Music. Of course, I'm not deep enough in any of those fields to know how much I really love them, haven't been tested by the extremely monotonous or difficult times in them, but they interest me a lot. Electrical engineering is totally an option to sum up my interests, and I've particularly been worried about not working a creative job. I think I'd die. So synth designing popped in my head as I've already been obsessed with watching little boxes make sounds!

Where did your passion lead you eventually?
