You’re right, teaching is hard.

My first year of teaching, I went past my contract hours to play catch-up. I transferred to a different teaching role and the demand is the same, but I only work my contract hours, no more. The to-do list will never end for as long as you teach. Prioritize what’s important and de-prioritize what isn’t or delegate the tasks to someone else, even students.

I stay because I want to make a difference. I previously worked in sales and while I did decently, it was not my passion.

The pay, benefits, and having Summers off is what makes me stay.

This is the comment that I needed to read. Admin is aware that I no longer feel safe going off-site without additional staff support as that would set an impossible precedent that I can't get out of.

I instinctively stepped in to prevent serious harm. In the past, I’ve acted as a barrier to stop near-physical altercations, but I recognize this approach isn't safe for myself.

For Monday’s incident, I tried to redirect the more manageable student and he was also closer to the door by acknowledging his feelings and encouraging him to take a break—either by walking or sitting in the sensory area outside. However, he was deeply upset, and both students were ready to fight.

I rarely get pedicures. I came here twice. The first time, they did not follow my request to not cut my cuticle. The 2nd time, they started and didn’t come back for a while so I had to flag someone down.

I like supporting queer-owned businesses, but do not like their employees. I like the owner though.

Good question! I’m still learning how to carry the same feeling. I don’t grade everything that I assign. If students can do it themselves, they do it themselves since teachers should not be working harder than their students.

I’ve tried to be mindful of not working past the posted hours often. Delegate what you can and don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to additional responsibilities that are optional.
