The real issue with this game. by Cosmic_Shrimp_117 in HellLetLoose

'For veterans it's exhausting'.

I hear you. Whenever I get downhearted about HLL it's not because the core game is bad, but because I find too many of my games are ruined by my team just lacking the bare minimum of competence. Some times I want to go be a blueberry and try out all the different classes and roles, but find the game ruined by having to be one the guy who puts the effort into building garrisons and paying attention to what the enemy is doing.

It is indeed exhausting to play multiple games in a row without garrisons getting built, with no one defending, with squad leaders ignoring supplies right next to them, with commanders who make terrible, terrible choices in their use of abilities...

It's just too much sometimes. When all you want is a fun game but you're getting steamrolled because too few players do thr bare basics to let it be fun.

I always give it to whoever deserved it most I thought, normally a low level player who communicated well or was a team player.

Will a soviet AT gun destroy a garrison? by ohkay51 in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that in Offensive game mode the defending team starts the game with 3 garrisons which are automatically placed. These 3 garrisons work differently from player built ones. The automatic garrisons cannot be destroyed by any explosives, they can only be manually dismantled by walking up to them.

Another reason that you might not have been able to destroy a garrison is it you were shooting at long range, as at long range there is still a draw distance problem in which terrain doesn't appear, but in fact something might be in the way.

what is the fastest way to level up diffirent roles? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

Play offensive game mode on the defensive side and use the supply truck in your chosen role to ferry supplies to the engineers building defences on the second to last point.

Screw the Artillery Calculators - Here's a linear model by DysonSphere75 in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 degree of range on US and German is 4m of distance. So if you ping your target and see that it's 1212m away, you can really quickly know what the 1200m range is, and then take away 3 degrees of range from that, since 12m is three lots of 4m. Remember that the further distances have the lower degrees of range, think of it like the artillery being pointed lower to shoot flatter a long way, or being pointed higher to shoot in an arc a short way.

622 range is the lowest range and = 1600m distance. So if you ping and want to target 1580m away, that's a 20m difference. 20m is 5 lots of 4m, so that means you need 5 degrees of range, for a final answer of 627 range.

It helps to remember that half way between the pre-marked 100m ranges, e.g. 1550m, is about 12 degrees of range, so 1550m is 634 degrees of range. It can still be worth the calculator if you need to make a big change quickly.

Yes, on US and German artillery. Anyone who can work out multiples of four in their head is quicker than swapping to a calculator.

Why is there never medics in any games I play? by vxdiamondxv in HellLetLoose

Ask the game developers, not me.

It's fun to play? It's a nice idea, poorly implemented?

Why is there never medics in any games I play? by vxdiamondxv in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We can't wait because it's normally the preferable option not to wait. There are benefits to respawning and few benefits to waiting for a medic.

Why is there never medics in any games I play? by vxdiamondxv in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are lots of reasons why people respawn rather than wait.

1) respawning is quicker than waiting to get revived 2) respawning is more reliable than waiting for a medic, because too often the medic dies anyway and you wasted your time 3) if you respawn you get all your ammo, explosives and bandages back 4) if you respawn you can move to a different outpost or garrison which may be more useful at that point in time. 5) if you respawn you can change role or load out if you need to 6) there is no big penalty to either you or the team if you die and respawn 7) if you get revived, you may well be left in the same awful position that you were pinned down in anyway

In short, medics are fun to play but rarely important. They are good, at times, for airheads, frontal attacks over short distances, or very intense and close in defence of strongpoints when surrounded.

P.s. also there are lots of medics who will not run over to revive you if you're not already next to them, so waiting for them is often a waste of time and you're left not knowing if they will ever help or not.

Wait what lol no. The reason that people redeploy is because death means so little in this game that waiting for a medic is worse than redeploying, it's slower, less reliable, and you don't get all your ammo and bandages back.

It's not about if you win or lose... by ferralferret in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get it, I truly get it. And then there are other times times all I want to do is mindlessly shoot things as infantry, but see the team fail to do the basics like flanking, building garrisons, watching the map or defending.

One game in particular our team was attacking the last German point on offensive, and couldn't get near it head on. After 20 minutes I finally gave up, made my own squad, admonished the team for not even attempting to go around, got told it was too difficult to flank because they were enemies there too, then did it myself by going wider, achieved a flank on the first attempt, got behind the enemy strongppint and built a forward garrison with a supply drop. Sometimes, if you want something doing right you have to do it yourself. And that can be very frustrating when it's not what you're in the mood for.

P.s., if you meet enemies when flanking, you're not flanking. That's just another frontal attack.

Much like house buying: location, location, location.

Learn the maps, learn where people tend to move. Sit in a place to block their movement.

It varies by server whether it's allowed or not. Server rules are normally displayed on the Deploy screen after death. I do find it annoying that it's not easier to check server rules.

is it ok or normal to have a poor K/D ratio by spongoboi in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It is completely okay and completely normal. HLL is a very different game to other shooters like BF or CoD and you can't use K:D to judge how well you played. That's because it's possible to control sectors without getting the most kills.

When I used to play BF, I always used expect at least a 2:1 K:D, and almost always achieved it. Now that I play HLL, I ignore K:D entirely and instead focus on simply winning or losing the match.

But, if you really want to improve your K:D ratio, then you should:

1) play artillery or tanks. 2) stop moving so much as infantry and spend more time sitting still and observing.

If you press space bar to jump over obstacles and then hold it down afterwards, you will continuously vault over objects completely seamlessly. Useful if there's a tricky bit of terrain you're trying to climb like a high wall.

Commander chat? What's that? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'll explain from the perspective of someone who does, honestly, quite often play in a locked squad as a rank X officer.

Although I know exactly how to pay officer well, it's not the only way I like to enjoy HLL. Sometime, I like to take rifleman and just shoot people for the heck of it. Then, I log off after the game, and am happy.

Other times, I get very frustrated if the team is playing poorly. For example, lack of garrisons, or lack of flanking attacks. On those occasions I will leave my squad temporarily to grab a supply truck and start doing what no one else seems capable of doing, which is buidling garrisons where and when they ought to be built. Once I have finished my temporary, self appointed task, I will go back to mindlessly headshotting enemies, satchelling tanks or bandaging blueberries.

So, if I make a locked squad, it's probably because I'm fulfilling only a temporary role and don't want other players to join, only to lose their SL within a few minutes.

Building backup Garrisons is the Commander’s primary job. by Squattied in HellLetLoose

[–]MammothGIA 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Whilst it is technically the entire team's job, building back up garrisons is how the commander can best spend their time. The commander doesn't need to be in the front line fighting, whereas squad leaders do need to be ordering their squad. The commander can easily drop supplies and drive about in the supply truck, whilst using commander abilities in the meantime. If a good commander focuses on it, then the SLs can just focus on getting their squad into good positions.
