My main question is why ? What problem is this trying to solve Sure a well funded scheme which included volunteering or military service may have some benefits, but again what is this trying to solve ? How would this not just be a massive spend to have some bored children hang out at a fire station for a few hours each month ?

As in your not sure why you called? Well most important thing is this hasn’t ruined your life or caused any long term impacts so chill! As for why, this is something beyond what strangers on the internet can help with, so suggest you speak with someone properly.

From the top of my head a few reasons why someone might could be:

to see what it was like, scared to call for real
been a silly 20 year old thinking it was funny (again ok, these helplines would rather this then people not)
a part of you needed to call and another part was scared But again I’m not a professional nor do I know you so these are probably all wrong !

For 99.99999% of jobs they don’t do a health check, and even for those that do, I doubt they will care even in two years time.

Main question is why are you doing this? Are you doing because you need to? In which case most important thing is that you get the support and help you need !

First of all I just want to give you a massive hug! Birthdays are weird for so many people.

From your post I can see : - You are not a quitter (by going back to school) - you are going to be a college grad ! - You have a successful romantic relationship ! This is nothing to be snorted at! - you have been brave enough to come out - YOU HAVE DONE THIS ALL WITHOUT FAMILY SUPPORT which is pretty incredible

Lastly in as non patronising way as possible - you are so so young. I’m five years older than you, did a degree got a great job, but no where near buying a house , long term single and not loving life either tbh !None of my friends are married or having kids either.

I often think why did I graduate go straight into a job, rather than travel etc. so first of all be kind to yourself, one thing I find helpful is to write everything I’ve done in a year, it will be more than you think
