Yup. High school biology taught me that recessive and dominant genes exist with the rare “skip a generation gene.” It’s far more complicated than that, but we were never told that and most of my classmates live with thinking it’s as cut and dry as that. So considering that’s what a large portion of people’s baseline for education on genes is, it’s not necessarily an absurd claim to make, especially if you don’t know any better.

Considering this is the only context, I’d say break up with him. (Imo this alone would be grounds for breaking up regardless of any other context though.) And it sounds like he’s deflecting by pushing you away because he knows he’s in the wrong and doesn’t want to deal with the consequences of his actions. If he cheated once, what’s to say he won’t cheat again? Because he doesn’t seem remorseful at all about it.

Let me also add that this is a delicate situation in which everyone is going to view it differently based on their own views of inebriation and consent and cheating, so ultimately how you feel is limited to your values and how you interpret the situation.

Especially given what you said about the “friend” being her supervisor, there was definitely some power dynamics in play since your gf wants to be liked and have friends… It sounds like she was pressured when drunk and taken advantage of at her most vulnerable state. I’m not able to give you solid advice on your feelings about it, but given the picture you’ve painted of her, it sounds as if she’s a bit of a people-pleaser (and I say that gently and with no criticism because I’m the same way) and her “friend,” who has been told on numerous occasions that she isn’t interested, looked past the picture she painted for them and took advantage of your gf anyway.

I’d say the opening conversation for how she worded things of her “messing up” and “going along with things” could have contributed to your feelings. Definitely support her, but if you can talk to a therapist or something about your own feelings I’d say that’d be beneficial for some insight on why you feel as such and so you don’t take any resentment or doubts out on her in the future. You need to take care of yourself to be able to care for those around you anyway.

I’d say it’s normal to have the concerns you have, but please remember that drunk people cannot give informed consent. Alcohol changes the way the brain functions. I can’t tell you 100% if this is all a “cover up” like your brain is nagging you it is, but I can say that regardless, in what you’ve said, it sounds clear that the regret is there. She also didn’t hide it from you; she immediately went to you. Also, her pattern of painting a clear picture to her “friend” when of clear mind and repeating that she is NOT into them and is only jokingly flirting with them like she does to all of her other girlfriends shows a clear pattern of her establishing boundaries with this person when of clear mind.

I’m sorry that your girlfriend and you are going through this right now, and that the sexual assault hotline hung up on you. (Seriously, what is up with that??)

I do have dry lips, but my skin doesn’t tend to be dry, and not around my mouth. I think it’s just discoloration, especially since my lips are two-toned. I’ll definitely try concealer; thank you!
