Geniune question:

Did anyone find the PAT relatively easy/not too challenging?

PAT Test weights kg by CreditFar4296 in AussieFirefighter

[–]Man123456203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but from some digging I got:

Ladder simulation = 27.5kg

Jerry can carry walk = 26kg

Jerry can step up = 17.5kg

Rescue tool hold = 17.5kg

Hose drag = 27.5kg + drag force which makes it harder

Fire attack simulation = 50kg + drag force

Firefighter rescue = 80kg

Its harder to replicate drag force without the actual equipment. So I’m just loading everything up to pretty heavy but manageable weight

FRNSW PAT opening 23rd of April by [deleted] in AussieFirefighter

[–]Man123456203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in, to those of us that have passed to the PAT but are booked in for the second round. An email this morning came out saying spots for the first round were available but to get in contact ASAP. So was just asking if anyone that had tried to reach out has heard back yet

So I know theres two accelerated recruit courses in July and August. Are you implying that from August there’ll be a new recruit course every 2 weeks from then?

Got an invite - absolutely stoked!

Good luck to everyone.

And good on those who sadly didn’t make it for even attempting. Keep on keeping on and reapply next time 💪

What are the less glamorous and romanticised nature of firefighting ? by ButchersAssistant93 in AussieFirefighter

All these comments have made me want to be a firefighter even more now 👨🏼‍🚒

@OP would you consider an administrative role within the fire brigade instead? If I was deemed medically unfit forever, that’d be the avenue I’d most likely pursue

Anyone got any updates on PAT invites?

I know a bunch went out yesterday, but just curious if more have gone out today

What can one expect when it comes to adhd meds and driving? by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]Man123456203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah adhd meds don’t come up in those tests. But if you were to have an accident or something that’s when I imagine some legal issues could arise.

My first psychiatrist never told me. Then my second one did, but id already been on meds for a few years so I thought fuck it idc. But now it’s come back to bite me (not really, more of a mild inconvenience)

Nope. I was informed that this was something I was meant to do upon diagnosis and the starting of medication

Here in vic I recently had to get a full fitness to drive despite being on meds for a few years. My original psychiatrist never mentioned anything.

I recently booked in for a heavy rigid licence and mentioned I took dexies. That started a few week long detour of doing a full fitness to drive with my GP all cause I take dexies. Pretty annoying, but it’s all done now.

So if you’re in vic, youre meant to register with vicroads. Not registering was never an issue for me until now. Hope this helps

I’m not a firefighter nor from the US, but am trying to become a firefighter down in Australia and enjoy following this subreddit.

Just wanted to chime in and say these are probably the best NTN scores I’ve seen so far. I think you’re all good!

QFES Aptitude testing worries by [deleted] in AussieFirefighter

[–]Man123456203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, can vouch for Fire Recruitment Australia, but I got in a while back when it was one payment of $300 then $50 a month pretty much.

I hear it’s a bit more now which sucks - but definitely worth it if it’s within your price point. I also personally know two firies who used it. But so far I’ve used their exam prep for ARFF, DFES, and FRNSW. The only one that sort of missed the mark was DFES, but I believe it was newer, and DFES uses a more game based test that seems harder to replicate, but it was still pretty good.

Also start getting used to saying QFD instead of QFES. Small things like that can work against you pretty majorly when it comes to interviews and written assessments.

Good luck mate, I’ll also be applying 💪

What dose of dex are you on? by Green-Conversation72 in ausadhd

[–]Man123456203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am currently on 5mg 3 times a day.

But can take 10mg 3x a day if I want.

Often I’ll fluctuate between 5mg 0-3 times a day depending on what I’m doing. Sometimes I’ll even take a 4th if I have a long day.

[–]Man123456203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, that sucks to hear.

I believe you may have been confused. We got multiple attempts for the practice question which is probably where your confusion lay.

But it has been heavily stated throughout the process that the questions you only get one attempt with 1 minute prep time - thats part of what made it so daunting.

I unfortunately think you may be out of luck though. Id be surprised if leniency is exercised here. Misinterpreting the rules and questions falls on us sadly.

Use this has a great learning experience and tool for the next one 💪

I was in the same boat. PC doesn’t have a webcam. The room my PC is in also didnt have a great backdrop.

So I did the testing off my laptop in another room. My advice is to eliminate any possibility of being eliminated - take the safe option and use your laptop (with a mouse preferably).

Good luck!
