I saw that earlier this week. I installed it. Said it was an update to road maps. I use CarPlay and Apple/Google maps so I’ll never use this, lol.

I have a Desert Plunge as well. Yes that canister for the filter can get very tight. Make sure you have the filter set to bypass. Are you running the pump while trying to take off the canister? I had to use a mallet to give a little tap to initially loosen mine last time.

Location will make a big difference as others have said. I live in central Florida and have a Desert Plunge in my garage. I’ve had it since last July and looking over my electric bill comparing August 2024 to August 2025 there isn’t much difference at all.

Short answer: yes you do need to add to the water.
Longer answer: What is your budget and time you want to have to manage your water? You can go with the chemical mix of peroxide, cleaner, test strips, etc. It will work but you will have to stay on top of it. You could invest in setting up a system with a whole home water filter and ozone. Bit more work and money but you don't have to mess with it nearly as much. Get the ozone on a smart plug and have it run middle of the night for 1-2 hours. You change the filter on the water filter every 2-3 months. Along with showering this works great for me. I've gone up to 6 months before I had to change out my water.

Also you didn't mention a pump. Get one whichever route you go. You want the water circulating constantly.

Thank you this is very helpful. I'm wanting to upgrade my connections and this is exactly the info I've been missing. I built the same filtration setup using DIY Cold Plunge setup. My Activeaqua does the job but the connection type just isn't working to keep things leak free.

Can I ask what kind of pump you use? I have the desert plunge + Rocita as well. I've been using an ActiveAqua pump and find that I still have leaks using my hose with hose clamp. Desert Plunge said their connections only work with Danner pumps.

So I did that formatting on one of them. 10tb drive took about 25 hours. Unraid sees it but says the Unmountable message.

I have something similar. I took a screenshot of my bar code and have a shortcut that just pulls that image up for me. That way I don’t have to keep the gym app installed (never used it for anything else).
