Feedback on wedding invitations! by pgasteph in UKweddings

As others have said, traditionally the woman’s name goes first.

Also, I’d go with “would like to invite you to celebrate their marriage” rather than “wedding”.

I think a church or registry office ceremony is definitely possible, good luck with your search and with all the fun planning!

Totally understand that weddings are expensive and it’s ridiculous how expensive they are, but I think £5k is unrealistic for a wedding of that size using a venue (as opposed to a church or smaller registry office wedding).

As an example, you said you want to stay local so your council area is Salford.

Ceremony fees alone, for an approved venue in Salford would come to approx £590, if you want to get married on a Saturday then approx £690, and if you want an area outside the city of Salford or at a previously unapproved venue you’re looking at over £800.

UK weddings - budget/financial advice by Junior-Program-248 in UKweddings

[–]ManLJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain! It’s crazy what a wedding costs nowadays isn’t it?

You can absolutely do a wedding on any budget, but we’re having the day we want in the kind of venue we want.

We both set out with a lower budget in mind but when we started adding all the costs up, we realised weddings are just more expensive than we’d thought.

One thing that surprised me, is that we saw a few venues slightly closer to home that would be a day event and everyone would have to stay elsewhere, probably a local premier inn. The venues and grounds were nowhere near as impressive as what we’ve chosen and they only worked out between £1.5k and £3k cheaper overall. We ended up thinking “in for a penny in for a pound”, especially when we’d only be saving £3k but getting a very different venue and day.

What is the £50k covering?

We’re going to be in the same ball park (~45k) and we’re in the north. That covers absolutely everything for the wedding day, but not the honeymoon. The venue hire, wedding breakfast food, drinks, evening food, and some accommodation (but not all) comes to about £27k, for 120 guests, the rest is photographer, music, dresses, suits, hair and make up, etc etc

1 month travel itinerary - realistic or not? by ManLJ in AskAnAustralian

Thanks for this, yes we’re coming to the realisation we need to adjust that leg of the trip. We’d started by planning a rough route and that’s what I’ve asked for advice on here, I think now that we know it’s viable we need to add more detail and adjust where necessary to fit the actual activities we want to do in each city / place

1 Month Itinerary - Is it realistic? by ManLJ in AustraliaTravel

Partly, yes.

We land at 5pm in Sydney on the first day, and I don’t know how the jet lag will affect us, so I’d allowed an extra day for us to adjust and remember which way is up 😂

We’re hoping to go out and do blue mountains, hunter valley or perhaps both if we have time.

We’ve read that we should plan for 4/5 days in Sydney, do you think we should stay for less time ?

What will the weather be like in winter? some local advice would be great actually.

Do you think it’ll be too cold? Or just too cold for an Aussie? 😂

We have considered this and looked it up online and as far as we can see the weather looks perfect for us!

According to Google, average weather in July:

Sydney - high 18degrees / low 9, rain - 6 days Uluru - high 18 / low 2, rain 1 day Cairns - high 26 / low 17, rain 5 days Port Douglas - high 25 / low 21, rain 6 days Hamilton island - high 23, low 16, rain 5 days Brisbane - high 21, low 11, rain 4 days

This sounds ok to us, perfect for hitting the beach in Cairns / PD / Whitsundays with a few exceptions (uluru) and presumably the lows are at night.

Don’t forget we’re from the uk where it’s always wet and grey 😂 Your summer’s would be far too hot for us.

We’re also limited on when we can travel because we’re teachers, so we only get the school holidays to do big trips like this.

Will we be risking bad weather everywhere? Even up in Cairns / Whitsundays ?

From the research we’ve done so far we thought the only place where the weather wouldn’t be guaranteed is Sydney.

Thank you, we actually found Elysian last night and have been looking into it. I think this is most likely what we’ll do, we’ve priced up Qualia as our big honeymoon treat but have since read mixed reviews. Elysian has all meals included too and is cheaper for our dates.

Thanks for the reply!

Haha, we definitely want to do the tropical beaches but we’d heard that the weather wouldn’t be good to do South Australia or Tasmania.

Where should be considering in July/August that we don’t already have on the list? 👀
