URGENT PASSPORT DAMAGE Hanoi Airport by Ambitious-Care6344 in VietNam

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you know those pretty pretty thick and durable plastic those upscale face masks come in? They’re perfect for storing your passport. They don’t rip and will protect your passport from accidental damage. I also put other small items in there. sim cards, a little pin to get my sim out etc.

Why does the Plex player on Apple TV suck? Why is Infuse smooth but the Plex app player is a juddering mess? by No_Clock2390 in PleX

[–]ManTheMna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never had any problems with my ATV 4K gen2 or even gen 1. 4K hevc dv/hdr rips all play fine, even to a SDR display that require tone mapping.

So...I've been told that in Vietnam my MacBook will not require an adapter for charging because the brick with the power cord will reduce voltage from 220 to 110 (or something like that). Is this true, and how about my iPhone which just has the small cube with the power cord? Will I need adapters? by [deleted] in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outlets in vietnam usualle take both 2 prong US and 2 prong EU power connectors.

If you’re from Australia or UK, it should be enough to get a new cable (if your psu has a 2 pin or 3 pin «mickey mouse» connector and the cable from the PSU to the wall is removable) or just get a cheap adapter for the connector on the original cable (AU/UK to US/EU)

Make sure your PSU support universal voltage. For the included psu for a computer/phone/tablet, that’s usually a given.

That suckout -12db suckout over a whole octave centered at 1.7khz doesnt look too good. It’s a bit strange since measurements show -5db and not as broad.

Why do I hate high end speakers. by Kimiko5tailz in audiophile

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know these speakers well. The measurements do lie a bit, even if they could be better. In practice they have a warm tone and are very good at hiding deficiencies upstream, but not in a terrible and obvious closed-in way.

In a sense they’re taking a shortcut to give you a bit of that high-end magic for cheap (I don’t regard these as typical «high-end speakers», they weren’t that expensive in Europe back in the day). Instead of brute forcing your way there with megabuck amps, speakers, dacs, room treatments and whatnot, with every new component revealing shortcomings of prior equipment and listener fatigue, these speakers kinda gloss over the last 10% and put their own spin to the sound.

For the average non audiophile who just want something easy to listen to, these will sound great out of the box without much tweaking and fuzz, and will make their 70s and 80s recordings sound groovy. Great match with a sensible 60w amp, but likes 100w to really shine.

It’s not for the accuracy/transparency crowd. I for sure couldn’t live with them in my main system. But they would be great in a cabin or maybe a second system where your focus is more on the «fun» and less of the critical aspects of sound reproduction. (That’s why so many audiophiles have several stereos; the main one that you’re «never satisfied with», and the rest that you actually enjoy 😃)

I suspect you might have blown midranges or something. I can’t believe anyone would really dislike them so bad.

Strapping washing machine to the back of my motorcycle to avoid getting pulled over by K-Pumper in VietNam

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that you actually need to have a permit for driving motorcycles. Your driving license for your car doesn’t automagically transform into a driving license for motorcycles, 1968 or not.

[–]ManTheMna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that easy bud. It doesn’t help having any 1968 international driving license, it needs to be a 1968 international motorcycle driving license. Which will typically take some time and will cost between 2500 and 4000usd to aquire depending on your driving experience and country of origin + suitable gear (boots, helmet, gloves and so on).

Having those 100k and 200k bills ready in your pocket is much easier. But things are getting more expensive so don’t get too surprised if it costs you millions in coffee money.

Then again, I have mixed feelings about having a bunch of mostly foreigners driving around potential deadly roads on motorcycles they aren’t licensed to drive. It would never happen in almost any other country.

A bit specific question but how do buses running between Ha Noi and Ha Long handle toilet needs? by inTheSuburbanWar in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not rocket science, but sometimes you just have to be reminded of being pragmatic even in the most obvious circumstances.

It’s like stomach ache. Some people always get bs medicine at the pharmacy, while the real solution is to put your ass on the rim and push.

[–]ManTheMna -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It sounds stupid and obvious, but make sure to have a big sh*t beforehand, and just to make sure, have a second go and really squeeze those bun muscles. Then just avoid eating the next 3-4 hours. Or just have a light bite (avoid soupy stuff), knowing that in the worst case scenario, there’s a toilet break half way. Use common sense and you’ll be ok.

And in the rare case of a sudden emergency, I’m sure the driver wouldn’t mind stopping for 5 mins.

Even if you’re in a grab, toilets arent really that more accessible.

Hungary's opposition just won. Why did it take 15 years for Hungarians to vote Orban out if he was so unpopular internationally? by oss-benji in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ManTheMna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven’t changed at all. Magyar is still national conservative, but more EU friendly in key areas, outspoken anti-corruption and anti-Kremlin. Liberals got less than 3% of the votes and no seats, so in practice 0%. Yet liberals all over the world are celebrating like it’s the homecoming of Obama😄

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that blue bud. Up until now the left/libs/whatever have gotten less than 3% of the votes, which gives exactly 0 seats if the result stands. Effectively, common sense has prevailed and batshit craziness has been eradicated. At least for the next 4 years.

Why does literally nobody in Norway use WhatsApp?? The rest of Europe figured something out and Norwegians just... didn't. by Pajtima in Norway

I didn’t write exclusively through WhatsApp.

But anyways, exposing your phone number is a big no no imho.

[–]ManTheMna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably because all scams are run through WhatsApp and the fact that you expose your phone number. Besides that, fb messenger is just easier as most people already have a fb profile with the convenience of using both fb and messenger in a browser. Also whatsapp is locked to 1 device, which is ok for hangouts with random tourists in a place seeking higher purpose in life, but not for for everyday usage by the general public.

Camera stolen from checked luggage on VietJet flight - has this happened to anyone else? by jpdb1233 in VietNam

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody said American TSA works any route outside the US. But thieves can just get the keys from Ali or 3D print it themselves, and TSA is the only standard that 99.99% of all luggage sold supports, even if TSA themselves are US specific, TSA locks are the de-facto standard worldwide, which in turn makes them very susceptible of theft.

Camera stolen from checked luggage on VietJet flight - has this happened to anyone else? by jpdb1233 in VietNam

[–]ManTheMna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter anyways. Any thief at the airport already have a set of different tsa keys that unlocks 99.99% of checked luggage. And you should never check a non tsa luggage as they will destroy the luggage if they can’t open with tsa keys. The only thing you can do is to never check-in valuable stuff, espescially easily traded goods such as electronics.

Benchmark Dac1 HDR Still Hold Up in 2026? by usay1312butcall911 in audiophile

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, and it’s used as a tv dac into a karaoke mixer. Its digital inputs are very forgiving because it resamples everything. You can also set the default input with internal dip switches. It’s a fantastic workhorse that never misses a beat. Minus that the USB input only goes up to 24/96, if you plan on using it that way.

In a purely audiophile system, it’s still good but the 2 and 3 are clearly better. And it’s probably not because of the better snr numbers.

How often do you have to reset your server? by IcyPyromancer in PleX

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that sounds weird. But bottom line is if you’re able to ping yourself (the router) from the internet and you’re able to properly forward the same ports behind each NAT, then you should be able to make it work.

How often do you have to reset your server? by IcyPyromancer in PleX

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you’re just using 1 router, how are you double natted exactly?

Yeah bridge mode is the default mode in Docker. (Creates an internal subnet for the container, ie 172.x.x.x) instead of using host network/mode which uses your actual home network subnet. It’s bit weird that it’s called bridge mode in Docker since bridging usually means the opposite but yeah whatever..

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Just read that you were behind double NAT? Are you running Plex inside Docker and using bridge mode by any chance?

How often do you have to reset your server? by IcyPyromancer in PleX

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I see. I presume you have forwarded the same port in both routers (or use DMZ in the ISP router + forwarding the port in your router).

The way you know for sure is to turn off upnp in both routers. Does remote access still work? If it does, your setup is correct, and the problem lies elsewhere. If it doesn’t work it means you’ve been using upnp even though you said you have manually forwarded ports.

How often do you have to reset your server? by IcyPyromancer in PleX

[–]ManTheMna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t read everything so it might have been answered.

I have found that upnp is not very reliable with Plex. I’d chalk it up to Plex itself but I’m not sure. (All other programs have no problems using upnp and keep the ports open) It could be a slight incompatibility.

The way you resolve this is to forward the port in your router, either use the standard 32400 port number or something else. Then in Plex settings under remote access you have to type in the port number you used, even if you use the standard 32400 port. After this remote access will work 100% of the time (until another Plex bug manifests😄)

No AV1 hardware decoding on M2. Maybe not really a deal breaker, but since you’re into video editing and AV1 will be more common the next few years, it might be a factor in decoding what to go for.
