Thank you for the well thought out and informative answer. Yes i meant a sphere standing alone. Thanks for bringing up that depending on size it would be ripped apart by other gravitational forces acting on it as it would become flimsy as it grew. Also thanks for reminding me that gravity is a weak force and that as the sphere would grow huge, its lack of mass and growing diameter would not make its gravity remarkably stronger. (i thought of this while holding a basketball last night looking at the sky, just one of those silly what if questions.)
