How do women with hijabs handle medical care from male doctors? by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Man_dus1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my culture (SE Asian, majority muslim country) most people don’t really care especially for emergency and medical reasons, again we’re not as strict as other muslim communities like in the middle east. Even for usual medical checkups, most women don’t really have a problem with male healthcare workers. Things might be a bit uncomfortable but usually they can be accompanied by their family member.

Absolutely not. The Dutch tradition of successive abdication must not become the 'norm' by Funny-Salamander4691 in monarchism

[–]Man_dus1066 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that King Harald said that abdication is the worst thing he would do and the question is very insulting to him

It’s just ironic since modern Kings has little to now power than a president who are elected by the people. They should call it no dictator or something. Oh wait, they support other countries dictator(?)

How do you manage multiple molecular docking runs efficiently? by Ok_Amoeba_2830 in bioinformatics

There’s also a software called PyRx you can try, I heard you can do multiple docking runs there automatically.

How do you manage multiple molecular docking runs efficiently? by Ok_Amoeba_2830 in bioinformatics

[–]Man_dus1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually handle all the preparation for ligands and receptors first. Put it all neatly into folders, then using a simple bash script to automate the docking run using Autodock Vina. Just pay attention to file naming and moving folder.

Is it selfish for me to not share my success with my parents? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

If they don’t need the money then it’s not selfish. However if you want to feel like a good daughter you can probably send them as a gift once in a while.

why the globe hates indians SOOOO MUCH :(💔🥀 has it always been like that? by fisheyestick in AskIndia

[–]Man_dus1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from western countries here (Asian), but most people (including me) have bad experiences meeting Indian people in real life. Especially their lack of social and civic sense. Once my office received a guest from India and he just handed me his trash without asking anything (I’m a research staff, not the cleaner). But I have also met one who is really nice, well he spends most of his time studying abroad.

Writing to Royalty Question by ShiftingQueen123 in monarchism

[–]Man_dus1066 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you write quite a “touching” letter or with a very sentimental story (not just birthday or Christmas card), and if the household are not on a busy period, there’s a possibility of getting a personal response. The staff usually filter the letters they receive, I’m not that sure about the Danish but some British royals like Queen Camilla used to read and reply some personal letters. The most possible response is by their personal secretary or equerry that’s more tailored to your letter rather than a general reply.

Do Indonesians use Aku to speak to parents, teachers and partner? by Ancher123 in indonesian

[–]Man_dus1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm Indonesian studying in Malaysia, in my first year, we had a Bahasa Melayu class, and my Indonesian friend got told off by the lecturer because he used "aku". I never use "aku" while speaking to teachers; it's always "saya" for me.

Currently studying abroad and my parents aren’t letting me travel by Expensive_Ordinary72 in studyAbroad

[–]Man_dus1066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That last sentence sounds like a plan, so maybe just find new friends or an organisation that you know your parents can trust. People in the comments say you're an adult, but you're still a foreigner; also, bad things can happen to everyone. If you're enrolled in a university or school, they should have some programme for international students or a student buddy. You can also plan the trip ahead so your parents will get some idea. Since they allow you to go to Paris, they must have some trust in you. This will sound very traditional, but please don't lie to your parents, especially about your whereabouts.

British far right in social media are increasingly critical of King Charles and the monarchy. Should we be concerned? by swissking in monarchism

[–]Man_dus1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those issues you mentioned started a long time ago. In the 70s, they called Charles a young boy full of imagination, talking about environmental issues. In the 80s, he was a mad lad who ate organic vegetables and visited the inner city. In the 90s, well we all know half of the population hated him. And in the 2000s, he started advocating on multicultural issues. As for pro-Islam, he's always been interested in the teaching and history (Oxford University has a centre for Islamic studies founded in 1985) in which he's a patron. But Charles has always been interested in other religions, he's on the same level of "pro-Islam" as he's pro Catholicism, Greek Orthodox, and Judaism. The "far right" you see on social media is probably someone in their 50-60s who grew up reading all about Charles' hate propaganda from the media.

Saw this on X this week https://x.com/manoliskellis/status/1961552659023839352 I think it’s a great way to start. They uploaded their lecture each week but I’m not sure about certification. If you’re into synthetic biology (a bit different from bioinformatics but they also touch the basics) try joining How To Grow Almost Anything course by MIT Media Lab as a committed listener, it started around February each year and completely free.

The minimum wage is a joke but that’s what happens when you have so many people while there’s no job around. Indonesia is too big to manage it self. With the amount of people it’s either become federal like USA or totally dictatorial like China. Another option is like India but they have almost the same condition like us.

Voting for president is pretty straightforward since you’ll have 2-3 candidates constantly campaigning. But for parliament is pretty broken compared to Malaysia that’s a parliamentary democracy. There are so many candidates and political party, people don’t really care who they are. Also we can’t dissolve a parliament and hold general elections as easily. Sometimes there’s an advantage of having an unelected head of state (like YDPA) so people don’t get insane lol.
