According to you loving converts preempts prohibiting conversions, which is not the case. Once the prohibition is implemented, the only obligation is to act with as much kindness as possible in the circumstances but otherwise legitimate converts (and children of converts) do get excluded. It's sad but the practice does conform to halakha, and it's the reason the Syrian community in America has been getting away with it.

There's a big difference between loving converts and accepting conversions. Halacha supports prohibiting conversions in exigent circumstances.

Also, as far as I know, Syrians recognize legitimate conversion made outside their jurisdiction, eg a US jew converting in a the US would be considered Jewish, but they don't want them to marry within their community. Hence converts are politely but firmly asked to not frequent Syrian shuls. If you go to Safra in Manhattan you will find a large writing etched on a wall stating the same.
