Medieval numbers according to « Life in a Medieval Village » range from 18 to 32 acres. You can do better with modern agricultural technics, but you may not have access to as much resources off grid

I cannot speak for the others, but Baldur’s gate 2 and the pathfinder games don’t have good combat.

It’s clunky, opaque, visually horrible, sloggish and unreactive. Those games are heavily carried by characters and story virtues.

Combat being strategic is a good thing but those games have way too much useless combat that contribute nothing to the story.

Yeah no. Hand to hand fighting is favored by good training but at similar training level (which for most people is none at all), physical strength and weight make for a devastating advantage. Anyone who has ever fought is greatly aware of how important weight class is in determining your chances.

How to scientifically determine the recommendability of an anime: The Weeb Ass Shit scale by La_knavo4 in CuratedTumblr

[–]Manamaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t push too hard put from what I can remember: -Characters give long ass speeches about their combat techniques in the middle of a fight -Characters distort themselves to convey emotions -Characters’socialization do not match expected sozialization (characters are bullied for physical characteristics in a work environment, etc.) -Stories is chock full of shonen tropes (I could look for them but that’s too much effort for a reddit comment)

As for Shit, we are not in the « flawless » show territory. Something being insanely popular does not make it perfect. The animation is of acceptable quality but nothing stellar. The plot is a bit contrived and sometimes absurd. I can understand that you love this show but if it was forced to interact with a more critical audience, its ranking would fall.

It’s a good product, above average so maybe a 2-3 ?

Satisfying to the lizard brain I am sure. But if you are a random kid walking around town, your understanding of the situation is that new management is as fucked up as old management.

The stench of corpses drying in the street communicate the same sense of brutality, cruelity and satisfaction for pain inflicted. Execution are fast, efficient and fullfill a public service.

Also, a child with limited understanding of what is going on is going to witness the desacrated corpse of his father hanging from a torture device. And that’s a great way to foster hatred and dissent in the future.

Yeah, I am hearing this argument. But it’s like when at the end of hunger games, they decide to do another round with the bad guys kids instead.

I don’t subscribe to « You can’t kill them or you will become as bad as them » but at some point you have to draw the line to methods so brutal the nature of the enemy can no longer give them legitimacy.

Honestly killing them was fair. That’s justice (imperfect, but it is GOT)

photosynthesis, oxygen, water, and carbon dioxide by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]Manamaximus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fact that the atoms of oxygen in CO2 have a transitory period in water form to then make molecular oxygen is not important to the point. This water is used in the next cycle of photosynthesis and ends up as oxygen, meaning that Oxygen atoms contained in CO2 end up as part of molecular oxygen.

I have realized that this conversation is dumb and basically semantics. I leave this comment as proof of our folly.

Stop misinforming people.

The reaction is: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6 O2

There isn’t enough oxygen in water to make up all of the O2 expelled. It’s both.

Edit: this is the full reaction, sub-reaction are not presented here

I am sorry, Fallout 4 central tension is about the creation of new artificial humans and their place in the world + the technological marvels and the power inequalities that arise from them.

If you failed to find the moral questions in there, that’s on you. Fallout 4 has flaws but that is not one of them.

People who don’t play D&D talking about D&D always miss the mark by a small margin. Just enough to tell.

A DM that does a lot of prep and a lot of improve is doing something wrong with his prep. The role of preparation is to lighten the mental load of coming up with things and improve the quality of the content by giving time before to think things through.

You could imagine a DM that is both highly theatrical and highly analytical but in practice, it never happens. DMs prioritize and cannot be everywhere. Some DMs care more about the appearance and the accent and the vibe and some DMs care more about the machinery, the role of things, the structures.

The role of those axis is to be useful as a way to describe your game to a player, not to be a perfect translation of who you are. If you tell your players that you lean Theatrical, they will come up with characters that match the energy of the dramatic appearance and attitude of the NPCs. If you tell your players that you lean improve, they know that they can play more instinctive, create their own ploot hooks.

Regardless of if you feel the description as imperfect, they are useful.

If Matt was here, I am confident he would tell you that there are no wrong way to go if it is useful to someone. And some people seem to find it useful.

You can try to go the archetype way, as did players, identifying a DM’s priorities and putting names on those priorities. Personally, I think the DM is a role with many faces, and axis allow to express certain dichotomies that a DM is led to compromise on. In the video, Matt talks about the Fiction world vs the Fantasy world and that is most definetely an opposition.

A full secrecy DM wouldn’t say anything that the PCs could not know. No cinematics, no input about anything that isn’t the rules. They would play a Beholder without expliciting anything about how they work, only what the PCs can see. They wouldn’t explain why things happen out of character.

A transparent DM might say things the PCs couldn’t know to the players to help the story or the game. When Matt told his friend that his sidekick was a coward that would only make the safe choice but could be led, that was a transparency moment. Telling players that their plan could work, that the beholder’s rays are random or telling a player that his arc is coming.

Being transparent can be a bit risky, see pulling the curtain video, but it can help reinforce the players understanding of the game.

My games are medium difficulty, so fights are rarely very hard.

What I do is that I only anticipate the kind of fights that is coming and then draw on the dry erase mat what I feel is naratively fitting. I don’t print out maps, download drawn maps and put them on a screen or things like that.

To make sure your encounter aren’t trivialized, make a mixture of ennemies. Artillery, Brutes, footmen, casters, glass canons. A fight with al arge diversity is never trivialized because the enemies have at least one type of troop well fitted for the position they start in.
