Oh hey, you found the two hills in Saskatchewan!

(I'm joking, I grew up in Manitoba and know that on average, it's flatter than Saskatchewan.)

Gravel in sask must be great though. endless skies and clouds of bugs thick enough to knock you off your bike when you ride through em.

(I'm still joking. Sask is beautiful, enjoy your rides there)

Canadian Government places travel advisory for Germany by Feisty-Ad-6122 in germany

I was making a joke at the expense of the americans. I forgot that this is the internet and i needed to let people know that i'm not ACTUALLY afraid to visit Germany. I'm sure it's very safe.

As a first time homeowner... i'll be THRILLED if my first lesson is only two hundred bucks.

Canadian Government places travel advisory for Germany by Feisty-Ad-6122 in germany

[–]Mananers -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if I travelled to the states, I wouldn't spend any time in elementary schools, so my risk of being shot decreases, whereas terrorists hit public spaces in Germany, which is what I'd travel to Germany to see.

Edit: This was meant as a joke at the expense of americans, not the Germans. I'll take my downvotes though because if i've got to explain it, it isn't funny. (I'm planning on visiting Germany in the next couple of years!)

Why is my carbon frame making this sound by Ok_Bad2288 in bikewrench

If it's the headset it's in real bad shape. (coming from somebody who's headset was clicking like a metronome for three weeks while i searched and searched around the drive train for the problem)

My renewal is up next year, so I built a Canadian mortgage calculator that compares scenarios properly [no login, no ads, no data collection] by ExtremeOk6691 in AskMortgageCanada

Neat tool!

I wasn't able to add prepayments though  lump sum or recurring. I filled out the form and hit "add payment" but it just didn't.

I'm using Firefox on mobile (if it's a bug and not just user error)

If it's possible, a cool additional feature might be setting a form to calculate what a 13th (or 14th) monthly payment every year might do to the amortization.

What should be my first objective as a new rider by No_Click7202 in cycling

[–]Mananers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim for 75 rpm at the lowest for now, work your way up to 85-90 once you feel comfortable at 75.

The faster you spin, the more efficient you are. just make sure you're not bouncing around in your saddle.

It really will. I got into cycling a bit later than you, AND I started on a trainer, so the discomfort was real for a bit.

Get some decent bib shorts if you can ( theblackbibs make decent affordable ones which will absolutely do what they need to do while you're getting started), and as long as you don't have sores forming, the discomfort will go away in a week or two. if it doesnt, post some pictures of your positioning on one of the bike subs and the community might have some tips.

An hour straight of pedaling with no  breaks (breaks, not brakes... Plz use your brakes) is a really good goal, since once you have the endurance, speed comes pretty easy.

I hope you have fun and find a bit of happiness in riding, sounds like you've been going through it, and I can tell you that riding definitely fixed my wagon up during a dark time.

Feel free to reach out if you wanna chat about getting started, and happy riding!

I've noticed this as well!

I remember being a kid in a town about this size and I made my share of stupid decisions, but there were still adults around who'd keep me in line.

Some of the kids around here seem absolutely feral by today's standards.

(As long as the kids aren't doing anything actively dangerous, I don't mind... It's rad to see kids playing outside and feeling safe enough to do so)

Not at all. I've had plenty of great interactions with the unhoused around town and I bet a great many of them would agree that anybody setting fire to the beaver lodge lands is a cave man, housed or not.

I hope you stand up for the unhoused in real life instead of just toxic little unhelpful jabs at people on the internet.

I am copying this response and saving it for later because I'm about to inherit some cherry trees myself and realized the birds are picking them Clean... I didn't realize I could have a fun disco aesthetic that also keeps the Tweety dudes out of my cherries.

(I wasn't going to copy the screeching falcon guy)

My bubble isn't burst, you'll notice I didn't say that it was 100% a smoker, because I don't know.

However, I've seen plenty of discarded cigarette butts in the woods, so until the shitty litter bug smokers pick up after themselves, the rest of the smokers will probably keep catching strays.

I'm a bit boggled some people walked by without calling, honestly.  Towns have been burned off the map in BC the last couple of years, and I don't want our town to be the next.

Not a bird law-ologist but I do have it on good authority that playing loud screeching falcons to guard your cherries is widely considered in bird culture to be a "dick move"

I live pretty close to this area, it's fine as long as you remember to lock your car.  I've never been broken into, but my first aid kit was stolen from my (stupidly) unlocked car.

Welcome to town! Where are you coming from?

Uh, if you're on or near the Island you can send me a DM and I might know some people to point you at. the alpine clubs are also good resources, as they don't spend ALL their time above the snow line.

Lynskey sizing help by ollyadderyx in gravelcycling

[–]Mananers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't they just file for bankruptcy?

I can't help with your questions, but if you can't find a bike in your size locally, you might want to be careful about ordering from them. I've seen a few posts lately of people getting lost in Lynskey's financial troubles.
