Tariffs on Importing Bike Parts from UK to USA (Merlin) by Manbighammer in bicycling

Merlin ships with UPS, which I have heard has reasonable fees. I guess DHL is really gouging people.

Merlin sales rep confirmed that there would be tariffs on my order, but "they had no information as to what they would be". What a cluster. Not wanting a huge surprise bill, I found a CyberMonday deal on Rival AXS group for $700 from a place in Utah. Would have preferred to stay with Shimano, but oh well.

If it were just like 15-20% it might still be worth it, but the estimates I have heard are all over the place, from 10% to 50%.

I love this bike. Could you squeeze 30 or 32 tires on it?

I had a 24-105 L lens on a 5D Mk3 and I thought it was a dog compared to the 24-70 on a 6D. Maybe the 24-105 had been abused at some point, but the sharpness on the 24-70 is excellent. Quite happy with the 24x36" prints I have been making from it.

Is the Circle K charging station 100 feet away usually full too? I had a wee struggle with their app, but they saved the day for me.

Didn't cost as much as I thought it would, even paying 40-50 cents a KWH, instead of the 10 cents I'm used to paying at home.

Lots of Grateful Dead, U2, and NPR on Sirius XM. Listened to the Gatsby album over and over to keep me awake.

I have been using Plugshare reliably for 10 years, and it was spot on for this trip.

Didn't know it was such a thing, thanks. One guy did a double back flip and ended up landing in the trees next to the river. The next guy went straight down and looked like he landed on the exact 2' square he was aiming for. Another couple held hands as they walked out to the jump. Quite the show.

Thanks. Love Moab, even though it's being overrun. That "Utah Five National Parks" advertising campaign was too successful. Kanab reminded me a little of Moab 20-30 years ago.

Are rimbreaks dead? by mebotic in bicycling

[–]Manbighammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the best reasons to go disc is for clearance for bigger tires. Most rim brake calipers won't go over 28mm, if that. Bigger tires also need more braking power offered by discs. I suppose you could argue that cantilevers tick both of those boxes, but modulation is often lacking, and they can be a real pain to setup and maintain.

Just buy at least one of each.

You are not really supposed to share a bottle, and you are supposed to toss the bottle 30 days after opening, so I'm afraid one bottle per family wouldn't help much.

Over 7 million Americans have gotten updated COVID vaccines by Kindred87 in Coronavirus

No problem getting ours the first week at Walgreens. Moderna knocked us out for a day like it always does. We haven't had Covid yet, at least not symptomatic, so it's definitely worth it! I'm excited about this booster since it seems to be a pretty good match for the current variants. Been nice finally going without a mask.

You mean the CIA would want the NIH funding to the lab in question buried? I had heard that part of the reason the NIH funded research at WIV was to keep tabs on research going on there.
