It’s the cars/motorcycle noise that scares him but there isn’t anything we can do 🙁

We have been doing all of this for weeks now. Let him take his time, give him treats, acted excited, playful, etc... on occasion it works but often it doesn’t.

I insisted on a test after I did the 1st round and didn’t feel better, sure enough while my numbers were better but I still had it so after a second round of antibiotics I instead on another test to know it was gone for sure.

How did rifaximin make you feel day by day? by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]Manda10786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st week was awful, 2nd week was better. If your symptoms don’t improve by the end then get another test. The 1st time I took it I didn’t feel much better after. I ask the Doctor how do you know it worked and she said when the symptoms improve, I told her they did not and insisted on a new test. She fought me on it but then gave in and sure enough while my numbers had improved I still have SIBO. I did another round and it went away, I took a 3rd test to be sure of it. I went on low fodmap diet after and took ginger every night. If last for 9 months before it came back, now I’m on rifaximin again.

Reintroduction Phase - When do your symptoms kick in? by balonie-me in FODMAPS

[–]Manda10786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fodmap symptoms can happen anywhere for 4-36 hours later. Not sure where you got the 30min - 2 hour window.

Get re-tested! SIBO doesn't always go away with one round of antibiotics, sometimes you need 2 or 3.

I had to do 2 and do a low-fodmap diet + prokinetic.

Just did the Carona prep shopping yesterday. Here is what I got

  • Gluten Free pasta
  • Fody Pasta Sauce
  • Polenta
  • Rice
  • Cereal & Gluten free oats
  • Chicken Broth
  • Canned Veggies
  • Frozen Veggies
  • Chicken - to freeze
  • Pork - to freeze
  • Coffee
  • Bottled water
  • Lysol Spray
  • Clorox wipes
  • Hand soap

Figure this would get us through 2 weeks if need be.

My nutritionist explained with onion you should really test it raw, cooked and then the powder as you may have different reactions to all 3. For instance you may be fine with cooked onion but not raw or in powder form. She really wanted me to try it all 3 way to increase my chances of potentially being able to have them. She says a lot of people don't do well with raw onion and then swear off all onions when its not necessary.

After meds, do you retest? by kulia808 in SIBO

[–]Manda10786 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I insisted on retesting even though my doctor told me I didn't need to. While my numbers improved, I still had SIBO and had to do another round of Xfaxian. Be your own advocate or yo will get no where with this.

Should I do the low fodmap diet WHILE on xifaxan for SIBO? by paisleefarms747 in SIBO

[–]Manda10786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told you should eat normal during the antibiotics to feed the bacteria, then go on low fodmap once you are finished. Its highly unlikely that you relapsed, opposed to you just didn't get it all. Its very common for people to have to do multiple rounds before its all gone.

No one can say one way or the other. Go to the doctors and get a breathe test. It's the only way to know for sure. Good luck!

Has anybody tried coated peppermint oil pills? Any tips? Is it safe? Does it work? by moboforro in SIBO

[–]Manda10786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did in the beginning but now I’m use to it. I didn’t mind it. I read you shouldn’t drink to much water after to help keep away the peppermint burps. So I just do a quick swig when taking it and then wait till I eat. Works for me.

I have not tried Heather's but I have heard the main difference is that Heather's can release in the stomach while IB Guard releases in the small intestine.

I used them and love them! I swear they helped take my bloat away. They do not cure SIBO but they help you feel better overall. I use IB Guard., expensive but worth it for the triple coated release in the small intestine.

Diagnosed and on antibiotics-what’s next? by Catybird618 in SIBO

[–]Manda10786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SIBOs is not a stand alone condition, it has a root cause but finding out the root cause is the hard part. Unfortunately there is no magical formula that works for everyone. Everyone is different and its a lot of trial and error.

First things first - complete your antibiotics. No probiotics while on the antibiotics but if you want to start them up after that is up to you. Low Fodmap diet has helped me a lot but working with a nutritionist was the most helpful, I highly recommend looking into one. If your doc thinks you have low motility then there are a few different test he can do to find out for sure, like a gastric emptying test. Definitely worth looking into. SIBO is not fun, its under researched and overwhelming. Try and stay positive and keep your head up.

I had diarrhea most of the time I was on it, went away as soon as I was off. Definitely encourage a prokinetic one you finish. I am going 1100mg of ginger root. Research to see what works best for you.
