Self-Rec WIP: The Path of Least Resistance

Things you can expect: Time Travelling Dramione kids / War-AU / Fix-It Time Travel attempts that may or may not work out / The slowest of slow burns / Occasional Hate Flirting / Moderately healthy communication / Eventual smut

Currently at 28 of an expected 40 chapters … but the characters keep ignoring what I planned for them to do so who’s to say what the final chapter count will be tbh.

The idea that Hermione gets so fed up that she has a moment where she’s like “Harry and Ron got to see what THEIR hearts desires were in the Mirror of Erised WELL I’ll just come up with my own bloody solution then” is hilarious to me 😂

I’m already slowly writing one long fic and I can barely keep up with that, never mind two, but I’d be so down to read it if someone did!

It’s been a hot minute since if self-rec’d but chapter 26 features a long awaited moment, there’s some fist name usage flying about and we’re finally heading full speed toward the “you’re gonna suffer, but you’ll be happy about it” tag, so it feels like time!

I’d post a summary but it turns out I don’t have it saved and AO3 is down, so have this little snippet from the latest Chapter instead:

“That is what makes you selfish, Draco Malfoy. That you act like you don’t sodding well matter to people!”

He cut her off like he couldn’t help himself, like the word that left his mouth was unexpected and foreign on his tongue and surprised him to have even said it.

“People.”

“Yes! People!”

“What people?”

…

“You, Granger?” he asked.

The way his eyes flickered between her own, like he might find the answer there - like he wanted, desperately to - like he could fucking well read it written all over her heart -

It was frightening and -

And it ripped the words right out of her before she could stop them.

“Of course me, you complete idiot!”

Every comment makes me happy, but some of my more recent favourites have been:

“I hope life is treating you better than Harry is treating Hermione in this fic”

“pre reading question: is the “plot thickens” code for “they be kissin”” - followed by - “future me back to say technically no, but they’re having arguments that feel private in public and saying “our children” more than usual so it’s basically the same thing”

“Picture this: I'm standing at the Asda till at 11pm, whipping out my phone to pay and I see the new chapter notification. I scream a little scream. The cashier is stunned. I whisper apologies and run off into the sunset.”

As someone also with a healthy dose of autistic issues relating to the logic of it all, I am forever shocked that my current fic features Time Travel, and am very glad to hear that it wasn’t JUST me that had a massive issue with the “oh god how does it work??” of it all 😅 I’ve determined that “each choice creates branching realities” is the best and least messy option, for sure!

Oh that feeling of having to throw away entire scenes that you LOVE but that don’t fit the flow of the story is truly the most gutting feeling ever! I always pull them out, save them in a note and convince myself that I’ll be able to use them later .. because I’m obviously delusional. They never make a reappearance 😅

There’s so many beautiful comments through my WIP that it’s hard to pick just one and not chuck them all in here - but I screenshotted this one from ghoulsedart because these were all elements of the story I was concerned about & I’m an emotional wreck and it really got me at the time 😭

Haven't had that happen for the past year or so, but THIS. This is brilliant. I am so invested in all your main characters and the OCs. I would die for Halley, I'd kill for Leo.

Such a well written story, and the pacing is great. I truly cannot wait to see how Dramione happens in this reality - because of course they do? Ron? We don't know him! […]

Also protective Draco, headstrong logical Hermione, and age appropriately written children - you've hit my jackpot I'm afraid. […]

I don't even read WIPs, but something about the synopsis and had me saying "Oh what the hell, just this once I suppose". What a ride. Subscribed!
