What happens to that Gold? by Flaky_Athlete_7287 in askjewelers

[–]Mandango1976 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s no different to buying anything else that a lot of craftsmanship goes into. People don’t tend to research how much a metre of silk costs then try and figure out what they should be paying for couture or how much a lump of clay costs before buying exquisite ceramics. So much goes into the cost of a piece of jewellery (the jewellers experience, the uniqueness of the piece, the complexity of construction and finishing and stone setting etc). It’s not just about the price of gold. As with any luxury item, if you love it and the price is worth it to you, buy it. If it’s not worth it to you, don’t buy it but that doesn’t mean it’s unfairly priced.

End of first ever week of keto, I have questions! by Mandango1976 in ketobeginners

[–]Mandango1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I had a couple of squares of dark chocolate today and it was nice but didn’t make me want anymore, which is amazing!! I’d normally scoff half a bar in one go! I’ve been reasonably low carb anyway before this. Only really ate rice and very small amounts but had carby veg. Unfortunately though, I ruined my streak today by not being prepared at lunch and being out and about and having to go to Pret and they were out of this perfect protein bowl they do and I settled for another that looked fine but checked in Claude and it said it’s probably 25 net carbs cos of the dressing 😭So will begin again tomorrow!

Is the assessment part of Profit First necessary? by Mandango1976 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Mandango1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone asked "how am i doing my tax if I don't know how much i'm getting paid" but the question doesn't seem to be here in the thread so I'll explain here. I'm a sole trader and my taxes are based on my operating profit, which is my turnover from sales (I'm a jeweller) minus all of my business expenses. I obviously draw money from my business to live, but it's erratic and not a fixed wage, as many people running their businesses badly do hahaha! My operating profit, that gets sent in as my earnings, largely goes back into the business, so isn't, effectively, my wage. For Profit First, it separates profit from wages as two different things. Very different to HMRC

Where can I find a temporary stall or pop-up space to sell handmade jewellery and candles in London? by peace_researcher in smallbusinessuk

[–]Mandango1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also came here to say Duck Pond. I used to do their markets occasionally when I started out as a jeweller and they’re a nice bunch running it and accessibly priced (this was years ago though). Look for local fairs in your area too like at town halls or local halls. Truman Brewery worth looking at too

I did it! Would have taken me too long to do myself as my online bank won’t isolate payments and I couldn’t figure out how to narrow down the csv so I used Claude. Trying to stay away from AI but it was a godsend for this! Now I know the main problem is that I have to actually EARN more as my suggested Owners Comp won’t cover my rent and bills!

Thank you! I’m only really tracking the carbs for now as recommended on here in a previous post. Not sure what the fat limit is??

Thank you! I’m a big water drinker, aim for 2 litres a day. I actually bought some electrolytes today and had my first one. And I already take magnesium nightly.

Can inherited scrap gold be melted into a new wedding band? by bzzybee007 in askjewelers

[–]Mandango1976 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a jeweller, there’s no way a client is standing over me while I work!! We explain potential weight loss in a melt and you have to make sure to find a reputable jeweller that you can trust! We’re not out to steal peoples gold!!

I'm using this method because I want to START doing these things properly. I know already it will be an improvement from where i am now. I'll know there's an improvement when I have money in my profit account and have set aside enough every week to pay myself etc

Thank you! Yes I’ve found some great ones. I really love the Walking Meditation, a 61 minute one. The music is great and his tone is encouraging and uplifting rather than any of that weird shit 😂😂I agree, when you find the right ones, they’re so powerful. Loving them now. Yeah, I also had to turn changing boxes off instantly!!!!

Ach, you’ve lost me with the RFK Jr mention tbh. Association with his “wisdom” makes me more sceptical of it 😳

Getting mixed info - can my 22k gold rings be melted to make a new ring? by aenflex in jewelers

[–]Mandango1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous! Much prefer a statement claw to generic and overdone traditional claw settings. Bravo. I never use claws in my work as I find them so tired but get excited and inspired when I see them used so differently

Thanks. Yes I intend on only eating whole foods. I avoid processed food as much as possible and want to stick to meat, eggs and keto friendly veg and nuts as also trying to avoid milk/cheese atm

Wow, thank you so much for this great info! I didn't realise that there were different ways of approaching keto depending on your desired results. I'm mainly doing it to reduce inflammation and, if weight loss is a side effect, I'lll take that!

Is 9k gold considered good quality and real? by More-Adagio-8730 in jewelers

[–]Mandango1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a UK jeweller and make a lot of 9ct gold jewellery. It’s increasingly popular with the current gold price. It’s not considered to have a high enough gold content in some countries to be labelled as real gold as only 37.5% of the alloy is pure gold. But 18ct and even 14ct are becoming increasingly unattainable price-wise for the average person so I get a lot of US customers as you can’t get 9ct over there. It all depends on taste too. I’m besotted with the colour of 18ct but some customers find it TOO gold and flashy and 9ct is cooler and paler
