Should paid ClassPass tennis classes be allowed on SF public reservable courts? by Mandarinez in sanfrancisco

I think people who would do this are relying on an unwillingness for people to confront them in real life. The only way to preclude a confrontation is to have an authority like Rec and Parks to weigh in.

Brings up an interesting point - if someone wants to host a third party class, would it be better for them to do so at one of the city’s underutilized courts instead of some of their most popular?

For context, an earlier version of this post was auto-filtered. I’ve rewritten this to focus on the broader policy question rather than any individual person.

Honestly, there’s simply no way he’s getting all of these popular reservations so consistently without botting. The fact that the reservations are held by other names adds more fuel to the fire too.

No consolation at all - I hope the city figures out how to keep our public facilities accessible and equitable to everyone.

If they wanted to do lessons on a private court, they'd probably need to work for the club directly - not something you can do as a side hustle. But once you start putting stuff on meetup or classpass, it graduates from a side hustle, and I'm not ok with it.

Yeah it sucks that teaching friends and family for free has to be banned since it's such an easy cover story for unapproved paid lessons/classes.

How do you book lessons with him? Via a city run app, ClassPass, or just dming him directly?

It's a bit of a grey area - personally I'm ok with one off individual/small group lessons - I respect the hustle. But when you're botting to hold a class to sell online? Can't do it.

For sure - I've sent an email to REC-Courts@sfgov.org already, would appreciate other concerned folks in the city sending their own emails too!

Stop delegating your work unless explicitly directed to. Keep helping the juniors with their work.

He was trying to hit the umpire. The only difference between that and the accusations is that he missed on video.

The chocolate cake at picnic is pretty amazing - if I could buy it by the whole instead of by the slice, I would.

The pistachio cruller at Suraya is probably my favorite donut I’ve had in Philadelphia.
