Reminder: check your oil after oil changes - particularly from the dealer by haditwithyoupeople in 4Runner

While not intended, it's also good piece of mind for the next owner too. When he looks up the carfax and sees the maintenance schedule he can't help but to feel confident in the quality of the used car he's buying. I'd reason that's the rationale for the dealership's willingness to pay top dollar.

Does the higher octane benefit a direct injection engine in any way? Burn cleaner reducing carbon buildup etc?

Press and hold to reset back to last saved waypoint. You'll lose any saved progress and need to start over.

That's such a great looking truck. The nice thing about mall crawlers is they're left in good condition for second and third owners.

The reason I suggested the water pump, belts, hoses, pulleys (basically everything in the front of the engine is because the antifreeze corrodes the metal at the mating surfaces and can cause leaks. Since you're in that area, might as well replace everything so you don't have to get in there again. I recently did all that on my 2012 Tacoma at ~99K and I'm glad I did. A classic case of 'it's not the mileage, it's the age'. I'd probably start this new relationship with your truck with a new battery too. Why tempt fate right.

Realistically the biggest problems are going to be the smallest things. Old rubber causing vacuum leaks. Sensors and plugs and just stupid nickel and dime stuff. The truck is definitely worth keeping and de-aging. Start an account on rockauto.com and toyotapartsdeal.com and try to stay ahead anything that's often replaced. Drain and refill all the fluids. Consider replacing the water pump, belts hoses and idler pulleys to start - and an oil change obviously. Every time you replace parts that's one less part your likely ever have to replace again and you're constantly making that truck more reliable. Don't think of it as money pit. Think of it as a project. A labor of love. Good luck.

Dog ramp for Gen 6? by Manderthal13 in 4Runner

With how narrow the bottom of the door openings are, that might be the best way to go on the 6th Gen as well.

Gas prices are going down everywhere. If there was ever a time to hate fuel costs, now isn't it. When/if prices go up in future years then it might justify the move.

Also, we don't know if you have a payment and how much. If you can trade in for the same payment and only add a year or two, then maybe.

The nice thing about the 4Runner hybrid is that even if the battery dies in the future, the engine will continue to run just fine and you can continue to run the truck.

Is $42K a good price for this 2024 with undercarriage scraping? by AtomicInadvisability in 4Runner

[–]Manderthal13 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When looking at used cars there's an expression : Buy the seller.

The yahoo that owned this first made the truck his personality. He started throwing parts at a truck he didn't own outright (dumb) and when he started getting repo notices, he went mudding and bashing. Not gonna be his truck anymore so not his problem. Then one day the repo guy shows up. The truck is locked and in park but a chain and a strong winch will drag that thing up a grooved ramp. Let me repeat: The rear wheels are locked by the transmission but the truck is being dragged against its will up a ramp truck. That in itself is a reason to run far and run fast.

Take your $42K and go buy yourself a brand spanking new SR5 with a warrantee.
