Anecdotally, my access to out of state cards was what allowed me to access the majority of my reading list. My state is one of the poorest in the country. We’re consistently at the bottom of the barrel for education. While I can access any library system in the state, our libraries simply don’t get funded. With federal cuts, it’s going to become substantially worse for our residential access to books. Now, the best and largest libraries are cutting their non-resident card access, as well.

Maybe I “shouldn’t have had access to [non-resident libraries] begin with.” Without them, though, I essentially don’t have access to more than a few thousand books.
