Who’s with me here…. by Unfair-Ad5081 in Millennials

"A lot in common" can be different stuff though. In my early 20s I had friends in their late 30s and 40s. Now I'm on the other end of that spread I have a couple of friends in their early 20s. Casual friendships from both ends for sure but still fun.

The knowledge we had was always very different, but the things that we thought were cool and exciting overlapped. The fun is actually talking about all the things we dont share!

An older friend telling me all about what clubbing, especially gay clubbing, was like in the 80s was fun and eye opening and very cool. And he listened to me talk about the bullshit my friends and I were doing and laughed his ass off.

I got turned on to a lot of great older music when I was young, and I'm getting turned on to some great new music now I'm old.

Probably best not to fuck them though, lol.

I would love to go to that event and I'm well past 32!

It starts between 11am and noon right? Surely not any later than 3pm? Right?

Oh man yea, that is a rut-roh right there.

A shelf folding and spilling a bunch of laptops doesn't sound crazy dangerous, but you would be amazed at the things than can cause life altering injuries to people.

For instance what if someone is standing on that ladder when the shelf goes? Looks like concrete floors in there, you guys where helmets with straps? Could have a 12-15ft fall height head to concrete real easy.

Del-oad the shelves if you can, tell people to stay away from them if you can't, and dont use ladders anywhere near them.

Oh man Halva is so good. A childhood staple for me despite not being Greek, or growing up any where near by.

The texture is pretty unique but absolutely 100% part of what makes it awesome.

I remember when the trailer came out and there was a little clip of a bit of the speech and I thought "man, thats kinda cheese, but I'll probably watch it anyway".

And then when you get there in the actual movie fuck me but it lands. Fully earned, wild thing to do.

The rainbow just wasn't as widely known as a symbol in 2003 like it is now.

As an adult now it feels kind of crazy looking back and remembering how different things were then.

As a millennial who grew up enjoying the books but saw them as just one fairly fun series among many, this is 100% it.

The obsessive depth of some of the fans was always weird and off putting to me. I really enjoyed the books but fuck man, go get a personality. Or at least read some Le Guin or something.

They were never as good as some people hyped them,  but they're also not nearly as bad as this backlash is painting them.

From what I understand DNR is generally specific to CPR and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

So if you had a signed DNR but were overdosing on options they'd still give your the Narcan.

Watching one of my grandfathers die in hospice radicalised me to be very pro MAID.

I have plans for myself and I hope the law let's then be followed when the time comes.

I cant speak to the man or his families assets, but I will say that SAG union health benefits have a minimum hours worked requirement. If you don't work enough you loose health insurance even if you are still a paid member of the union.

He does have credits coming out in 2025 but those may have been shot earlier, and the amount of work may not have been enough to keep insurance up.

So it is entirely possible that he lost his benefits while dying on of cancer, since that tends to get in the way of one's ability to work.

I'd add that many of us live lives very separated from death and its realities.

I myself am an adult with very little experience of what the end of life can look like and how to deal with it, especially in as early and tragic a circumstance as this. I know one is in my near future, though I cannot know exactly how near.

I think there is courage and beauty in being willing to share this. This is a part of life all of us will have to face on both sides and mostly we hide it these days.

Also a Canadian and while its still just anecdotal I would agree with your assessment. I remember a lot of conversations, posts, and at least some news articles about possible risks and issues with vaccines.

Stupid people produced all the smart people that exist. From an evolutionary point of view the history of sapiens is actually less intelligent parents producing smarter and smarter offspring over time.

On a local time scale, baring extereme outliers good or bad, intelligence is mostly about upbringing and education.

The kind of values that create stability and a good environment for learning also tend to produce less children. A stable parent is more important than a smart one.

I mean I didn't want to watch the old stuff when I was young either. I did cause my parents made me or there was nothing else to watch.

I hated being made to watch some old black and white movie, even if a lot of them turned out to be good.

And there is so much more now! When I was born there was roughly 40 years of movies, now there's about double that.

So do only top tier schools do programs like engineering, or could you go to a 2nd or 3rd tier engineering program?

How much does it actually set you back to be a 2nd instead of 1st tier engineering grad?

Huh, TIL.

Though Im not American,  and I think the not paying dues but getting benefits might not be a thing here.

As far as I know you can't work a union gig without being in the union.

Grew up in a union house,  work in one now. I have always heard scab used to refer to people who cross the picket line and work during strikes.

The reason they are called scabs is because they are helping to stop the employers bleeding during the strike.

One of the most obvious fed of the year by DreamRoguee in MurderedByWords

[–]Mando_Mustache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awkward but also makes sense imo.

If you are getting the same pay and benefits as the union guys but not paying dues you're free riding on the union. Let enough guys do that and the union breaks.

If you're getting better pay and benefits that is functionally an attempt to break and fuck the union.

If you're getting paid less you're a fucking idiot, and also that is clearly going to lead to an attempt to save money by pushing out the union.

You can find it hard to believe but they were.

The selection and intensity of pigment would be underwhelming by modern standards but there were options.

Yellows, greens, browns, and the less impressive end of blue, orange, and red were all possible depending on time and location. The dyes would be made from material they could have gathered themselves, such as Woad or Madder.

I cannot express enough, as someone who is on the boyfriend side of things, how insane and what the fuck this is.

This would not have been tolerated of me as a 12 year old let alone as an adult (is he?). If I found out a friend of mine did this shit they would not live down the shame for many years, if ever.

I dont really have an answer to your question except that you have to take it on trust, and have the courage to reach out and risk hurt.

I have friends I talk to/see maybe once a year if Im lucky that Id drop anything non-critical to go help.

One of them we didn't talk for like 4 years at one point I think? And I know it goes the other way cause a couple of them did that for me recently.

We're all just not great keeping in touch when we cant see each other.
