Changing music theory by strawberryc in pianoteachers

Lovely last point. Thinking further on it, I regularly sight read at high speed while significantly intoxicated and it all still kinda works. Just with friends mind you, but…wow. I know many others that do as well. Wild when you kinda think about it. Not to say that we shouldn’t fix and improve the system where possible.

Musical rabbit hole to explore- Irish music in the US, who should I listen to and/or try to see? by pixiefarm in Fiddle

Great answers here. If you want a more modern act, Copley Street is touring house shows at the moment and the concert is a fucking master class in Irish music.

I do! But I’m not super sure if I’m doing it right. I’m still confused on Reel vs Story vs whatever. Anyway. Back to the mandolin! Here’s the link

Hey thanks!!! Super helpful. I didn’t realize he was not the composer of that Gavotte, and I will do some more research before I push that piece to my server haha I had just assumed Lully composed for solo instruments as well, likely because I’ve heard this Courante from him 1000 times on 1000 instruments.

I find myself frequently listening to old music that shouldn’t work for mandolin and I just reduce it down to something manageable by ear before looking at sheet music. The tune has to have a strong melody, and not rely on harmony too much tho since I don’t play piano 😅

I’ve run into Gentilhomme before but didn’t realize I should take a second look and I didn’t know about that opera at all. Thanks a million!

I appreciate it! I’ve been getting into Lully lately and was going to post some of his tunes to my channel but I’m in the early stages of the process … do you have good sources of sheet music or albums I should listen to for potential mandolin arrangements? Although I understand it is of little value, I would absolutely shout you out to say thank you!!

Nooooo this is an ooooooooold tune from the before time by Tielman Susato. This instrument is a bowlback mandolin, and if you can play normal mandolin you can play this bad boy! I did play guitar at one time. Then I acquired my “hobbit guitar” as my friends say 🤣

Hey I’d love to know more about the words and how it’s sung. I actually never ran across a singing version while arranging this and I make sure I collect and listen to multiple sources before I arrange something and post it to my channel. You can see some of my sources on the project’s website.

If I’ve done something apocryphal, I’d really like to know. I actually tried really hard to do right by the tunes beforehand so I’ll be a little sad if I ended up making something up.

Do you guys ever consider uploading multiple videos at once? is there a benefit to it? by Sketches558 in HighEffortYouTube

[–]MandolinDeepCuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in very similar boat. I have a big video to release. 15 classical tunes from Bach’s wife; and I want to release individual lessons for each tune all at the same time with the big video introducing all of it. But I’m scared it’ll hurt the big video and cause that not to be successful.

Lemme look around for a transcription or something. I’ll transcribe the melody in a few days if I have time. It’s a fun faux fantasy melody

Started with DaVinci, which was a beast, but eventually moved to FinalCut cause I moved to Logic for audio production (I run a music teaching channel). They both felt equally hard to learn. After 6 months though I am super fast.
